Meet mid and south Warwickshire correspondent Moira Rawlings

Moira Rawlings is our correspondent in mid and south Warwickshire, covering Leamington, Kenilworth, Warwick and the surrounding area. Find out more about her.

Q: What's your name?
A: Moira Rawlings
Q: From?
A: All over! Born in Wiltshire, brought up in West Yorkshire, then lived in London and Cambridge for years. Now living in a small village just outside Leamington.
Q: Star Sign?
A: The Ram – Aries.
Q: Joined the Beeb in?
A: October 1985
Q: What has your career involved so far?
A: I joined the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Arabic Service as a secretary from university in 1985. Jobs in schools radio and Radio 4 followed, then in 1989 I was taken on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Local Radio Trainee Reporter Scheme which meant living out of a suitcase for two years when I was despatched to Ö÷²¥´óÐã local radio stations in Stoke, Southampton, Suffolk and Cambridge. I’ve also worked for Ö÷²¥´óÐã network radio news in London as well as on programmes such as Ö÷²¥´óÐã2’s Restoration. I’ve been with the Ö÷²¥´óÐã in Coventry and Warwickshire since 2001.
Q: What does your job involve?
A: I'm the correspondent for Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth and the surrounding areas and am based in the library in the Royal Pump Rooms in Leamington. The job keeps me busy and is challenging - any day can start with me out on the road first thing in the morning to broadcast on Liz Kershaw's breakfast show and end with me sitting by the side of the river Leam talking about boating on Bob Brolly's show. I knew that I had achieved local stardom when I was invited to judge a scarecrow competition exactly a year after we went on air!
Q: What do you like most about Ö÷²¥´óÐã Coventry & Warwickshire?
A: Being able to do a job where I'm in constant contact with listeners and members of the public - hearing their stories and finding out about all the events going on.
Q: What's your favourite place in Coventry and Warwickshire?
A: As well as the village where I live, I love the rolling Warwickshire countryside which is perfect for walking the dog.
Q: Who's your favourite person?
A: I have to say my husband, Dave!! He’s the reason I’m working for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Coventry and Warwickshire as I moved here after we met on a walking holiday in Menorca.
Q: What's your favourite hobby?
A: Walking, singing and wine!
Q: Your favourite food?
A: I love Greece so feta salad is a favourite.
Q: Your favourite drink?
A: I have a great liking for wine and strong coffee.
Q: Favourite song?
A: We have about three thousand old vinyl records and CDs at home so it’s impossible to single out a favourite – but the last time I turned the radio up was for Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze - it was great!! I also love Elvis.
Q: Favourite film?
A: Again there are loads – but Jaws is definitely up there.
Q: Give us a fascinating fact about yourself:
A: Tenuous this – but I am related through marriage to Star Trek’s Patrick Stewart! He’s the cousin of my sister’s father-in-law. Also I am step-granny to Bradley James Rawlings.
