It's girls v boys in Bedworth

Kieran, Anita and Nykita tell us about words used by young girls growing up in Bedworth under the influence of Western and Punjabi culture.

Nykita does her Voices interview

Nykita tells us about her accent

If Coventry, South Warwickshire or North Warwickshire do indeed have their own accents, how are they changed by growing up with Western and Asian cultural influences?

Kieran, Anita and Nykita all come from Asian families but have grown up, in the most part, in North Warwickshire.

Click on the links on the right to see how they sound and listen to the words they use.

As well as looking at cultural differences, for example the use of Punjabi instead of English as a first language, the girls look at the vernacular employed by boys and girls and how terminology differs.

They also chat with us about words they've made up and their own languages, which sets them apart not just from different generations but also from their contemporaries.
