Lucy brought The Good Life to Warwick Arts Centre on Sunday, 18 February. She explains the thinking behind the tourās title fairly early on. Sheās into her mid-to-early-thirties (an age only used by those of us in that bracket) and wonders how good her life really is. Quite good, it turns out, but not as good as her comedy! Lucy lays herself, her faults and her love life bare in front of her audience. Itās what makes her so likeable. Her ābutter wouldnāt meltā looks and sugary-sweet tone of delivery endear her further to her male fans, Iām sure. The carrot costume is also fairly-easily explained (and shed not too much later). Lucy thinks itās high time that healthier companies rather than tobacco and alcohol suppliers sponsored entertainment. Thatās why she approached a carrot-growing QUANGO for sponsorship. The Good Life is a wide-ranging theme for Lucy. Itās a theme that can cover topics ranging from why sheās not keen on showing off her toilet roll on the way back from the shop, to foot fetishes. That doesnāt stop her diverting from the theme, though. Amongst the diversions is a set piece on the dangers of lunchtime dating, cleverly delivered both one-to-one to the lucky victim of her affections for the night, and to the audience as a whole. If sales of Kim Wilde DVDs and garden-related produce increase over the next year, Kim will have Lucy to thank. Who else, she asks, can garden, sing and be everything Carol Vordeman isnāt?! Lucy romped through more than an hour of perfectly engaging comedy despite not feeling too well. She coped perfectly well, but such is her self-effacing style that she still thanked the audience for āhelping her feel betterā. Perhaps thatās why, if you pronounce it slightly differently, thereās always an āawā in Lucy Porter. |
