Sean Hughes is a name from the past. A name that always conjured up a smile whenever it floated into my head. Well I鈥檓 pleased to say that a beaming smile recently returned to my face. And then some. For I was fortunate to witness Sean鈥檚 return. And my grin was so wide I almost forgave him for being away from the comedy circuit for eight years. But then he is such a charming person. It was clear from the start that so much quality material has gone begging over the years due to his protracted absence from the stage. He could have had so much fun in the early noughties but I guess with Sean we should just be grateful he managed to get to forty somehow. The comic proved he still had the ability to connect with the audience and this was readily done with the usual front-row victims. But it wasn鈥檛 vicious, or indeed malicious. In fact he readily handed out sandwiches to them, and offered career advice to one particular youngster. Sean proved he鈥檚 still just an ordinary bloke with a sense of mischief. So much so that he admitted to getting mistaken for people鈥檚 neighbour these days rather than the bloke off the telly. Okay, so I didn鈥檛 laugh enough for my shoes to fly off. But I chuckled throughout. And I nearly spat out a mouthful of water when Sean hit me unexpectedly with a cracking punchline. Had my grin been any wider, the chap in front of me would have been drenched. Thanks a lot Sean. And welcome back. |
