Inferno to make much anticipated debut

While Trance music is sparse in Coventry, its fans most certainly aren't. Trance doesn't come to town very often, but good news for Trance lovers because Inferno is about to light up in Coventry.

Trance music fans despair no more.

One of the most promising Trance events looks set to take Coventry鈥檚 alternative music scene by storm.

The event, suitably named Inferno will be held at, what used to be an the Edwardian Old Fire Station, The Escape Bar, right in the heart of the city centre of Coventry.

Inferno will be held on Thursday, 21 August and promises to bring the many Trance fans of Coventry six hours of non stop old, new and classic trance.

I caught up with local trance DJ and co-promoter of the event, Carl Briggs to find out a little more about it all. Passionate about Trance music, Carl didn鈥檛 skimp on any of the details and it sounds like one not to be missed.

Why do you and your team feel that it's important to bring events like this to Coventry?

Being Trance clubbers ourselves, we found ourselves continually having to travel to other towns to find Trance events - some fairly local, others much further afield (sometimes as far as London or Yorkshire), so we realised that if we're having to travel to find Trance events, then so must other people.

We want to bring something closer to home for Coventry clubbers. It's also good for Coventry nightlife in general because it offers people something different.

What is it about this specific event that's so different to others?

Most of the other dance events in the city are aimed at specific genres - such as Drum n Bass, House, Electro or Techno. There aren鈥檛 any other local events which play solely Trance on a regular basis. The other advantage in terms of our events is that we're clubbers ourselves - so we know exactly what people want from a Trance night. Most promoters run their events as a business to make money and can be often be a little out of touch with the scene, whereas we're doing it as a hobby because we love the Trance scene. We're not interested in money. We're clubbers, not businessmen. We just want to bring a Trance night with a friendly atmosphere to Coventry that people will enjoy. If people are dancing all night and then going home happy, then we're happy too!

Run to the Sun

You'll want to dance the night away.

How has this specific event come to be held?

It's something we had wanted to do for a while, but we were always worried that there may not have been much demand for a Trance event in Coventry. We thought there may have been a reason why nobody else had run a regular Trance event. It was only when we were travelling back from a Trance event in Leeds back in March that we all said, 'wouldn't it be great if Coventry had something like this.' So it was then that we decided to do a bit of research to see if enough people would be interested. Once we realised that people were keen on the idea, we decided to actually make it happen.

What will Inferno consist of on the night?

The event will consist of six hours of Trance music, with two DJs (myself and Martin D) both doing two sets each. We'll be doing a one hour warm up set each to ease people into the night, and then another two-hour set each, with those sets getting much faster and harder. We aim to cover all of the various styles within the Trance genre - progressive, uplifting, euphoric, and melodic, plus some Tech-Trance and Hard Trance too. We鈥檒l be mixing a variety of present tunes, plus a few classic favourites from the past too so there鈥檚 something for everyone.

Are there any future plans to bring more trance events to Coventry?

Definitely! If the clubbers of Coventry want a Trance night on a regular basis and they鈥檙e happy to support our events, then we'd love to continue with the events each month. What we'd like to do is bring in other DJ's in the future like local DJ's that would like to play in their home town We'd also like to bring in well-known established Trance DJ's such as Judge Jules and Dave Pearce as well as other well-known DJs that have never played in the city before.

We want to give Coventry people the opportunity to see world-famous DJ's, without having to travel miles outside the city just to see them. We want to bring something completely new to the city!

Finally Carl and the rest of the Inferno team would like to hear from all you fans.

We鈥檇 love to hear the Coventry clubbers suggestions for Inferno. If anyone has any suggestions about the DJs they鈥檇 like to see in Coventry, or suggestions on what they鈥檇 like to see at Inferno, or would even just like to show their support for the night then we would love to read their views in our discussion forum on our website:

Details of the event:

The event will be taking place on Thursday, 21 August at The Escape Bar (The Old Fire Station) in Hales Street in Coventry. It鈥檚 a fantastic venue with a really friendly atmosphere. The event starts at 8.30pm until 2.30am.

We'll be giving away some free gifts during the event, so people are advised to turn up early because we only have a limited amount.
