Can someone please jot down for me in words of one syllable how you get the quotes in the boxes?Whenever I try I get the whole message and when I try to edit,I lose the cute little box. Where do you start the editing bit as each message starts with the user id, should I leave that in or out. I am sure it is easy once you know how.
I don't know either, I'm glad its not just me>
Hi Rats,
My guess might be not as good as yours. If this works then, this is what I did: click the 'Add original message' button, typed a bit pre the left quote thing, changed the stuff in the quotes and typed this following the right quote thing.
This one syllable criterion is a bit restrictive, Rats, and I apologise for the 'original' but it was necessary to properly identify the button.
Now we'll see how this worked!
Cheers!
OK Lets see what happens Mr Goat.

The only way I can get a box is to use the whole message. How do I get selective bits in a box, as it were?
Mmmm...
That didn't work worth a toot! Must ask Wombatsnose. He / she seems to have it right.
Wombatsnose, how did you do that?
Old Goat.
PS We can now add smileys to messages?

When you hit reply you are presented with a compose box where you type what you want to say. Below this box are some buttons. If you click "Add original message" then the text of that message appears in the compose box.
What you see starts with 'less-than quote' and ends with 'quote greater-than'. You can add text above this, as I have done here.

Or below as I have done here.
If you don't want to quote all of the message you can remove stuff from it, but be careful not to change anything that is between a less-than and greater-than sign.

Right I am determined to sort this out. Lets see what happens this time.
How about you Mr Goat?
Oh double poo! Still no box!
Hang on, had a thought. Can you only get a box if you do the full original message and if you want to select you have to do the <>s.
I'm sure some of the longer serving MLers are having a huge giggle at me now. I'm even answering myself which I think is a no-no.

No, include the whole message to get the box then remove the bits you don't want.
But do not remove anything between a less-than and a greater-than. Stuff between these tell the software how things are to be displayed

Hooray!!!!
Many thanks for being so patient, Carthorn.
Hey Mr Goat, try it this way.
By Jove I think I've got it!
Coo, I never knew that. Let's see if I can do it as well...

My pleasure.
The thing is, I don't understand why this works any more.
I read somewhere that we are using an extension of HTML, so it all made perfect sense earlier on.
I have now found the relevant page again (it is ). But this does not include the quote tag, on the other hand it does include bold, italic and underline tags, but these do not appear to work.
Surely we are not using a different extension of HTML, after all we have been assured that *all* Ö÷²¥´óÐã sites have to use the same guidelines (see and )
Oh dear, I didn't understand any of those messages. Should I go on a course? Can anyone recommend one?

Sorry i'm using you as a guinea pig to see whether I can get the boxes too - I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't do this
