Word is that the TVOA, yes, the sacred salad dodger himself, will return in AmEx. How can this be when the obese oaf made such a big noise - literally with the bells of St Stephen's ringing out his tenure - about staying in Ambridge for eight years? This self-imposed deadline has long since passed yet the platitude spouting daughter fondling cleric is still in the area.
Tayler- - can you please find out why Friar Tuck-in hasn't slung his holy hook as he promised?

Maybe he's just changed his mind.

Can somebody explain to me why Alan Franks is considered to be overweight or eat a lot?

I think it's because he once ate two mince pies or something like that.

Maybe he's just changed his mind.Â
It appears he did but why make such a big noise - literally- about something and then pretend it never happened? Is he a liar as well as well as his other myriad faults?

Hi bg
This came up a while back. I'll have to have a dig around and see if I can find the posts. From vague memory, I think he promised to be in Ambridge for at least 8 years, rather than only 8 years.
Tayler
Thanks Tayler. (Eight years or no it was strange behavior particularly from someone who seems to be an introvert by nature.)
Perhaps it's because he met and married Usha.
Also, it's not entirely his decision. Unless he's prepared to become unemployed, he can't just chuck in his tenure unless he finds somewhere else willing to take him (and with wide enough church doors).
Doesn't he have to wait until his Lord and Master 'calls' him to minister to some other poor unfortunate souls ?

But that reinforced my point; why make such a big deal about it BEFORE you have even started in the role? By having the bells rung eight times - one for each year of his promised stay - he is setting himself up to fail with this self-appointed tenure,
The Vicar of Glibley is a one dimensional character; he speaks in nothing but platitudes, treated his wife appallingly badly during 'Blamey' and sets a bad example to his parishioners with his apparent gluttony,
I would love to see him go and a be replaced by a West Indian or African vicar; that would put the wind up Peggoi. St Shula and Radio!
to be fair, life has changed for Alan since he arrived in Ambridge. Back tehnm he was the single parent of a teenager, a widdower with a rosy view of his dead wife. His daughter has grown & is established in her chosen career locally - she hasn't travelled, taken gap years or gone to work far away and he has a wife whose business in local. Even if it was his intention to only stay while Amy grew up thinking that she may move away anyway, life has taken some different turns.
I honestly don't see Alan as that big - just normal middle-aged bloke sized who likes the odd drink & pie & isn't obsessed with the gym.
Frankly (getit?) it's so long since he put in an appearance I can't remember much about him. Always struck me as a real drip though and yet another incredibly weak parent who was completely in thrall to his dreadful daughter, Amy the sainted yet strangely rude one. Funny how the SWs seem to specialise in obnoxious offspring who make a habit of being rude to their parents, such a long list.......
Time to be called to a tough inner city parish where his, I'm sure, many talents are truly needed. Might do Amy some good too....Usha can make up her own mind!
the vicarage three are currently starring in AmEx in a very dramatic story
