There was a very good TV documentary recently about this question. It told various stories where individuals had been being attacked in public and had needed help from 'strangers' nearby. In some cases, those strangers had helped, even saved a life; in others, they had done nothing to help a victim of violence.
What would you do if faced with such a situation? Be the good Samaritan without hesitation or stand back, or something inbetween?

I've just restarted this thread over in the Bull, as I started it here by mistake! (It's more one for general discussion in the pub, I think.)
I've done it.
One technique I've used quite a few times is to make them feel like naughty children. With a bit of practice, you can get the tone of voice and body language to make them think of their mum or gran or big sister when they were little and being very naughty. I've separated quite a few men this way, using little or no physical contact.
I've also used my gender in other ways. A lot of men won't attack a woman, so if you stand between the attacker and their target, they'll give up. If that doesn't work and they turn on me, a pointed comment that they're not real men if they attack women will often do the trick.
Sometimes, just a soothing voice if they're attacking because they are afraid, reminding them that it's safe to stop.
It's a question of judging what sort of people you're dealing with.
(And yes, I've lived in some rather rough areas!)

Sunny Clouds- you couldn't copy that and repost it over on the Bull, could you? I have restarted this same thread over there, because I didn't mean to start it her in TVH in the first place.
