My mother is in her 80s and has angina and a pacemaker. Last year she developed polymyeligia (sp?). The official view is that that is clearing up (blood counts within normal range), but she is absolutely exhausted all the time. This appears to be one of the symptoms (or side effects), but the doctors are shrugging it off.
Does anyone have advice about how to improve her stamina? She's adept at managing (by constant rest, cleaner, gardener, daughter), but getting very bored and depressed at being able to do so little and being effectively housebound.
All contributions gratefully received. I will be back later/tomorrow.

How are her fingers? does she do knitting/crosstitch/mobile texting? only asking cos Ma can't due to arthur itis but wishes she could.
My uncle (now 86) was diagnosed with polymyalgia a couple of years ago. He was very tired for ages and not interested in doing anything but he has improved very significantly in the last six months and is much better.
I haven't got any suggestions on the activity front, other than I wonder if your mother could get some help from an occupational therapist on how to keep active. The other thing that was important for my uncle was to encourage him to eat regularly, he used to have the soft chewy multi-vitamins once a day which I think made a difference.

Nothing specifically on the tiredness, but this is the ARC leaflet for polymyalgia, if she's not been given it by the doc.
Many thanks for your thoughts.
