I was in that there River Island this morning looking for last minute gew gaws for Girly's trip to Paris.

I'm not usually given to coveting stuff but I saw something I think I might have to have.

It's a tote bag. White, with a repeated print of the Chelsea Girl picture of old on different coloured squares. Oh, and it had Chelsea Girl in sparkle over the pictures. I'm not really describing it very well, but it didn't just wave at me, or even sing my name. It jumped up and down and shouted 'Buy Me, Buy Me Now'

Girly was very rude, described it as chavtastic, and told me she wouldn't walk with me if I bought it. It's silly expensive for a beach bag - £30 - but I can't stop thinking about it.

My absolute favourite teacher of all time (Miss Hall, J3) carried all her stuff around in a succession of Chelsea Girl carrier bags, I thought of her the instant I saw it.

    Will I buy it?
