Are there any which are any use?
Elderly folk on both sides of our family have had disappointing and expensive experiences over several years. This is so different to fairly good help with teeth and eyes.
Aged Ps both tried NHS, then various expensive private aids including visits from a rep. Now back to NHS which seems marginally better but they are not wearing them much.
Glasses - fine. Hearing aids - rubbish, uncomfortable and they say impossible to clean and adjust.

sagethyme..i've just bumped up an earlier thread on hearing aids..can't do the linky thingy... i investigated aids this summer, could post you some names if you want; i loved the unitron moxi13 but at £4000 a pair, i couldn't afford it..Boris
Thanks Boris. I have read the other thread with interest and learned more about the options.
The message seems to be: behind the ear types, because the in ear types will be too fiddly. Have I got that right?
Will check what Aged Ps have at present, and maybe will go with them to next appt and learn more and help interpret. They are not keen on this and I do not want to be a bossy child, but the nature of the problem means we are never sure of what the medics have said to them, and they will not write it down.

IMHO all aids are fiddly to begin with...
i dread to think how some APs with dexterity problems cope....some of the realy modern ones come with hand held TV-zapper like programmers..not sure if NHS will supply those sort..mind you its just another zapper to loose.
good luck with your APs, sometimes you need to be 'the bossy child' and its not allways easy....Boris

That is the point Boris, and they are not coping! They are neither dextrous nor patient. We certainly do not want another remote control to lose, got shedloads.
The expensive aids are gathering dust in a drawer and parents too embarrassed to say how much they cost.
We will persevere with the NHS, and our family will have to learn how to do the adjustments for them. Are there any makes more easy to use than others?
