Tonight's the night, boys & girls!
Andy Murray is third up on the Rod Laver court, after two ladies' matches which start at 11am Melbourne time, so I reckon he'll be in action about 3-4am UK time.
Not that our support did much for him in the majors last year, despite naming the thread after him.
So, can he do it this year? If not now, when?
Hi Ermintrude - are you staying up to watch him?! Now that is what I call dedication.
As for your question of whether he can do it this year, I have no idea, but I will enjoy watching to see
Given the title of your previous thread I'm not sure I want to admit to this, but although I'd like him to win (he is surely too good not to get a Slam sometime...), I don't have such strong feelings about this that it makes his matches uncomfortable for me to watch - which is quite pleasant really!
Will have my fingers crossed tonight though.

Hello mistle thrush....I'm not really *that* much of a Murray fan, except that I do think we ought to support our best (ahem, only) hope. It's about time someone seriously interrupted the Rafa-Roger regime, don't you think.
I'm quite looking forward to the women's too, to see if Kim Clijsters can repeat her US triumph - I wonder just how good Henin will be? And Serena usually does well in Australia, doesn't she.
Hi Erms and thanks for starting the thread. We can but hope that our support will be a bit more effective this year!!
Not sure I'll be able to stay up to watch these middle of the night matches (note the plural optimism ), and especially not tonight cos I have work tomorrow - i don't normally work Mondays.
Can he do it? Gawd, I hope so. (Don't think I can stand the agony of another Henman!) He has had his chances before and not made the most of them - so who knows really...?

Morning all, Andy is comfortably through to round 2 - now that's a relief. I see he has deserted Fred Perry for a rather garish blue and yellow Adidas number.
Meanwhile Sharapova looked as if she was auditioning for the Little Mermaid while she got knocked out.
Rafa's just started his match now - calling Cat, CAT!
is it on telly

Just looked, it's also on Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 if you press the red button.
Rafa is wearing the orangest orange shrt you've ever seen. Looks like he's been Tango-ed.
(2-3 with serve in the first set)
Thanks for opening the thread Ermintrude. Not an Andy fan myself, Roger's my man...or Rafa. I'm really pleased to see Kim Klijsters back on the tour, the Women's Tour really need her, and Justine too.
I simply daren't switch the tv on otherwise I'll get nothing done today. Love this tournament though, it signals the start of a new year, and I'll be watching later.
Enjoy the tennis, everyone..
xx
ooooh, Rafa is rather lovely, isn't he? Bum as shapely as ever... sigh.
Luczac played marvellously earlier in this first set, but Rafa is back in business now, just bagged the first set, and hopefully it will continue.

Morning all, sounds like a grest win for Elena Baltacha overnight, against the 30th seed Bondarenko. Rafa, Roddick & Clijsters through. Andy due to play at 8am here - shame I have to go to Sainsco's......

Well here I am again with my lonely reports - Andy has breezed through again, poor Elena Baltacha dumped out by Safina.
I suppose there hasn't been much to talk about so far - let's hope it hots up next week. Clijsters seems to be in big trouble right now, though.......
I'm here too Erms, watching Clijsters who is in trouble. Shame, she's a great player and it's fab that she's returned from retirement.
Am busy this morning, which is annoying a I wanted to keep an eye on Nadal's match. grr.

Oh poor Kim!
6-0, 6-1, not a nice way to go out.
And JJ is out too. How boring.
Sad to see Clijsters go down to Petrova. She seemed really off colour after her amazing come back last year at the US open.

Hello tennis people. Watched a bit of Rafa this morning (the joys of being retired). I thought he was not at his best, but good enough for an easy win - or maybe only working as hard as he needed to beat his opponent.

Well, week 2 will be with us with a bang tomorrow - Andy and Rafa will be on court about 8.30 our time. What's your prediction, folks? Will we all be watching?
I would if I hadn't arranged to move house...........
Meanwhile Federer is looking ominously good, isn't he.
I'll be watching, Erms. Not sure who I predict, too close to call I think.
Women: wo gets your vote? A Williams for me, probably Serena. I had been thinking maybe Henin, but she has been looking a bit tired apparently.
Good luck with the house move!

Hello Cat, it's hard to see anyone beyond Serena or Venus really, isn't it.
Meanwhile tomorrow is so hard to call - is Andy really playing well, or just not been tested? I reckon Rafa will have the mental edge if it's tight, but would love Andy to prove me wrong.
I'm thinking of barricading myself in the living room and letting Pickfords get on with all around me.
I fancy Andy might pull it off, Rafa is not looking great.
Pinkies crossed

Just turned the coffee machine on to warm up, & will pop out to get some Danishes.
Mmmm Danishes!
This is the first match that's been at a sensible time for me ie not middle of night or work day. What tv channel can I see it?I'm a bit limited where I am - I have access to freeview and the red button. Can't seem to find 5live extra on the tv- think it might only be DAB. Getting a bit worried....
Oops - have just found the radio station. I saw SX and interpreted it as Sussex!!!

Hi Anne Marie, it's on Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 in a few minutes I think.
No sign of removals men yet so will get myself a quick coffee and sit down for a bit.
(They're just packing up today so hopefully can have the telly on in the background!)
Thanks Ermintrude. I'm sure I scrolled thro the listing and didn't see it on - a case of more haste, less speed methinks!
I'm not in ML much these days, so I've probably missed your removal news. Hope all goes smoothly.

Hi erms and Anne-Marie
Back from a lovely holiday in the Dolomites - loads of snow on the ground and not a cloud in the sky for a week. Perfect.
Good luck with the move, erms - at least the weather is a little better now.
This match could go on for a very long time, methinks....

On BB2 now very exciting. Will take coffee in to conservatory as sun is out and it is nice and warm in there.
Nadel is annoyingly slow between points.
Driving me mad. Murray has broken again

coffee next week or sometime? I'll need it by then....Â
That would be lovely - ask me again next week, though, as I've got an urgent job to finish by Thursday, then up to Oxford to visit my uncle on Friday, then more work ...

No, it's his knee you need to kiss better cat.
Poor Rafa.
I say Jim Courier goes on a bit doesn't he. Must have been watching Geoff Boycott.

Oh that's a real shame, but well done to Andy for making the semi.
Who decided Courier was good on TV - dull and slighly annoying, over does whimsical.
Sorry to Rafa but Murray played beautifully. I loved seeing a bit of serve and volley.

Sad it was Nadals injury that decided the result. Hope that Andy can push on and demonstrate it wasnt a hollow victory.
I think Murray was out playing Nadel. I could not see Murray dropping the next three sets to see a Nadel victory even if his injury had not occured.

And Cilic has beaten Roddick - what a chance now for Andy. I hate saying that though, sometimes I think he's not as good against people he's *supposed* to beat. (Cilic 14th seed)
, in reply to message 44.

Apparently Cilic had a really hard match against Roddick, while Andy only played two and a bit sets. Maybe that will give him a bit of an advantage.
First moment here since this morning. Good that Murray is thro, although a shame about nadal's knee injury reoccurrence. Having said that, Murray /was/ in a strong position - which is prob more than can be said for our Cat!
I'll be at work when it's the semi, so I'll be relying on this thread to keep me posted!
Hope removers are doing a good job Erms.

Watching Federer/Davydenko at the moment has reminded me.... When Federer played on Monday he sat on his seat between games, finished a bottle of water and just tossed it over his shoulder. Grrr

Sounds like he was pretty good, Davydenko's been in good form. Ominous for everyone else!
Two chinese women in the semis, Li and Zheng. Is China the new Russia?
Chuffed that Tsonga took the first set. I heart Tsonga. He is the French threads mascot. His opponent is a serial ball bouncer.
