I don't believe it is.
And I am convinced that it is a bad and rather foolish premise on which to base important decisions like whom to vote for in a general election.
What do you think?
In this case, change is not a good thing. It is being promoted, imo, as change for the sake of it. That's not a real reason for change.
There's no feeling for a need for change like there was in '97. Instead it is for the best of a bad lot, and they are still a bad lot.

Dunno.
Seemed to work for Mr Obama, I suppose.

I think it's unhealthy for the same party (whatever the party) to be in power for too long, it breeds complacency, cronyism etc. and can lead the country too far in one political direction. So I think change is a good thing for the health of our political system. And when you think that, due to our daft electoral system, parties come to power on 30-odd percent of the vote (did Labour get 35% last time?) then it seems unfair for any one party to keep hanging onto power time after time because of it.

Agreed Looby.
I also see the strong attraction of change- the fresh promise it offers etc.
And I also think a change of government would, theoretically at least, be preferable after any one party has been in power for a long period. However it needs to be the 'right' change- change which is going to be beneficial or at least not harmful to our society.
And if the Conservatives win, as some predict they will, I don't believe their government will be beneficial- in fact, I am convinced it will be 'a bad thing' for many, many people in the UK, and for the direction our society takes.
Pepita,
I am very fearful of a Conservative govt. I wouldn't trust Cameron any further than I could throw him, and that is purely on the basis that I don't believe he knows what he is doing, and neither do those who advise him.
So many people voted for Margaret Thatcher in '79 based on wanting 'a change'. Look where that got us.
Sorry, am revealing self as old leftie.

No need to apologise Looby- I feel exactly the same, as I'm sure do many of even remotely left wing convictions.
I've just seen a clip of DC at one of his rallies shouting out a list of questions like "What do you need when you've a failing economy?" And his supporters all shout "Change!" in response.
It strikes me as gormless, and badly (if at all)thought through.
We're out of time though aren't we?
I question why I have answered your thread in the Village Hall, rather than if you had posted in the Bull. The answer is I just can't be @rsed to argue with the 'politicos' there.
I really don't think that the party leader debates have helped. I can't vote for David Cameron, Nick Clegg or Gordon Brown. I can vote for my constituency, and as it happens my incumbrent MP has been a good one and deserves my support.

Gosh Looby- I hadn't realised I'd posted this in TVH- that was an error on my part!
I thought I'd posted it in the Bull.
I wonder could it be moved over there? I am genuinely interested in other people's opinions on this idea of change in politics and government etc.
(At what time does the no discussing poltics thing kick in?)

When polls open, Taylor has told us on TB and DTA, I think that's what she said, anyway.

There you go, link to Taylors post...
You could try to get it moved, but it might be easier to start again between now and 07.00 hrs when the poll opens.

Ah thanks you two- I was about to ask (revealing my ignorance) when the polls opened.
