Welcome to our thread. We are here for anyone with mental health difficulties, be they mild, moderate or severe, and anyone who cares for someone with mental health difficulties.
We welcome both participants and lurkers, and lurkers are welcome to delurk as much or as little as they like.
We share our experiences, swap help and advice and have a smile along the way. Both serious and light-hearted posts have their place on here.
We encourage people to feel able to say how bad things are without the need to apologise for it. You are warned that if you make a habit of apologising, our resident mermaid may give you a swift swipe of her tail to remind you that you don't need to apologise for sharing. Sometimes we need to give and sometimes we need to take and both have a place here.
You may find yourself a little puzzled about some of the creatures you encounter here.
Brian is our resident hamster. He visits various of us at night, rushing round and keeping our minds racing. We do our best collectively to keep him under control.
You will meet two sorts of Peeps on here. As elsewhere on the Internet, the term is used to mean people, but many people on here also have little pocket-sized crochet birds in assorted colours available on request to those who find them a comfort.
We do our best to help people in distress, but if you are in crisis, do consider calling the Samaritans in the UK 08457 90 90 90 (Befrienders Worldwide elsewhere or contacting your GP, your mental health team or your local Emergency Department. Suicidal thoughts may subside if shared, but if not, treat them as an emergency.
So settle down with your favourite drink and share this thread with us.
Thanks for opening the new thread Sunny.
I'm afraid I posted on the old one, ooops

My psychiatrist phoned me this morning. He didn't get much sense out of me because I was asleep when he called. Never mind, it won't be long until my next appointment and maybe by then I'll be nicely stabilised.

Triffic OP Sunny! Nicely balanced and informative. Afraid I too posted on the old thread as I found the post I started last night and mislaid..... I wouldn't ask if I were you.
It's hot here too, but with a nice breeze.
Angua, hurry up and get better! It's a waste of lovely weather if you're miserable.
I'll bet Mermaid's exhausted by now! Must dash - out again after TA!
Niftyx
Sunny, your OP made me feel all warm and comforted (much needed just at present). You are truly priceless when you are at the top of your game. I agree with Westie that you hold this thread together like our Cath did. No better comparison.
I dedicate this post to you both and hope that she is coping well with life.

I'm keeping Brian company. He's relatively calm, just pottering round gently.
I have paperwork to do and I haven't done it. When I'm not well, whole days disappear with very little done.

Morning all
Hope everyone slept oh - back later..
Good morning all. Thanks for the welcome to the new thread Sunny. Hope the change in meds is working out.
Has Mermaid exhausted Merbaby yet?
The sun's definitely out so why am I feeling totally gray? Still horribly homesick (thank goodness I brought you lot with me tho) and feeling more and more disillusioned with the new job. Trying to compose an email to my "supportive" friend explaining why he's making me feel worse rather than better, without being rude and offensive. Anyone fancy a cup of tea/coffee while I procrastinate some more?
{{{{Hugs}}}} to everyone and a big thank you for being on here.
In reply to English Rose in message 19
I'll join you in a cup of tea, ER. I'm going to stop procrastinating tomorrow.
Feeling a bit leaden myself, but I'm hoping that a bit of breakfast and the passage of time during the day will lift that.
Wishing everyone some sunshine today

Gad, the heat!
provincial lad made iced coffee overnight and put it in the fridge - he's really looking after us all.
A special hello to English Rose, as I don't think we've met.
I think I know every one else.

(quietly and gently for those who are feeling fragile)
Morning.
Sorry to hear folks are feeling down.
Procrastinating - does everyone here do it? I do. Have things to do, then something else crops up that seems more urgent and then the first things get put off - day after day.
Suppose we all do two things (I keep typing 'thongs' ) today that we've been putting off.
I'll make a start. I'll renew my car insurance and finish a Peeps I promised someone ages ago.
Long day yesterday and didn't get back till 11 so didn't post although I found Sunny's new thread - thanks, Sunny.
Merbaby has changed so much in the last couple of months. Chatters a lot now. Amazes me how children learn to talk - but we all did it. And she helped my stuff one of my little charity bears that I'd knitted on the way there. Fascinated watching me stitch on the eyes, nose and mouth. (I gave her the bear)
May you all wake up as the day goes on.
Morning fluffy one. Just having a bowl of cereal even tho I'm not hungry. Probably better than cheesecake which I had the other day for brekky! I've been trying to find an ironing board but failed miserably so, ridiculously, I'll have to take my ironing away with me this weekend and do it then. I'm starting to run out of clothes as I haven't been able to do any ironing since I got here.
Someone give me a kick up the bum and get me moving please.

Stand still, ER.
Over a bit - left........bit more................
*/SWIPE!/*
Sorry PL. Good morning and hello to you. I'm so ditzy at the moment I start something then forget what I was doing and everything's done in a half baked kind of way. Let's hope I remember to turn all the horses out and not just 1 then forget the rest. And ... more importantly .. I'd better remember to shut the gates.
WfM, I'm glad you enjoyed your time with Merbaby. The little girl I look after keeps asking for a Peeps, having met Princess Peeps. She seems to have the memory of an elephant and keeps reminding me to ask you. Is there any chance she could have one if you have any spare? Princess Peeps got a bit worried yesterday when we went to the vet til I reassured her we weren't going for her, she was just coming along for the ride.
Could someone check the dog's ok please. I fell on him when WfM swiped me. I think he's probably just in shock but he's gone awfully still. Waving a biscuit under his nose will probably do the trick if he needs reviving.

Of course, ER! I've got some here who are hoping to be adopted. How old is the little girl? Email me your current address and I'll get it in the post.
No apologies necessary, ER - I'm a bit out of things as I haven't been around much. I don't know your circs, but you mentioned homesickness, which is horrible.
PL
This weather makes me feel like being in water (mermaid has got the right idea).
Last year, you might remember I won a voucher for a day at a prestigious spa, and I put off using it again and again, as I had no one to go with. Or rather, they would have had to pay £100.
Well, as a Christmas present I had a mini-membership to this place, which means that I can go three times in the space of a year. I can take a guest, but they would have to pay £40 + hire of robe and anything they eat and drink, etc.
I haven't felt well enough all year (and still don't) to use any of the visits, but I am having the same problem of having no one to go with! No one seems willing to spend that amount, even though compared with actual membership, it's a bargain. A very silly situation - something positive and pleasant has become a burden! When I did use the voucher last year, I had a good time, though I didn't stay all day. The place is like a film set.
I'm sure there's a moral to this....

I'd come but (grumpy face) I'm too far away.
Your tail would cause a sensation!!
My DD wants to treat me to a weekend break at a Bali Spa for my big birthday treat. Trouble is, I'm not sure that I will even be able to go out there again this year due to DoM's health problems. Feel very guilty, anyway, taking such an extravagant gift from DD and, please don't all shout at me, I have to be truthful with you ... I truly don't feel I deserve such extravagance. All wasted on me, it won't change a thing. I'm so sure it won't happen that I am putting off booking my annual travel insurance. Procrastinateur, moi?

(whispers)
Your daughter clearly thinks you /do/ deserve it. Don't deny her the pleasure of giving it to you.
A friend of ours, M, had a much older female relative (wife's aunt, I think) who wanted to have a balloon flight, but wouldn't go on her own. She wanted M to go with her and said she would pay for it. M very much wanted to go, but didn't want to accept it from her and he couldn't afford it himself.
They didn't go, the aunt died and M has regretted ever since that he didn't go as he stopped her from doing something she wanted to.
Is your daughter going with you? Maybe she wants someone to go with and can't think of anyone she'd rather go with. (I mean that in the positive sense, that you are her first choice of companion, not a last resort)
So go and enjoy it. Children like to give their parents treats.
And why not?
Wise words oh wise one

Hi Peeps!
Treacly sort of a day here, and the heat seems to have had an adverse effect on the fms :o(
I reckon if they make an olympic sport out of procrastinating, the Mustardland team would deffo get gold. I can spend /ages/ trying to decide which order to do things in - only to find there's hardly enough time left to do any of them in...
Archi, a while back I had a really horrible bully of a manager who, to put it briefly, managed to convince me that all of my colleagues hated me. Imagine my surprise, therefore, when they arranged a wonderful (& expensive) treat for my birthday. It pleased them to do it for me, and it did me a power of good too. I recommend acceptance.
ER, it's a good thing you _didn't_ fall onto Brian...
Sunny, any more news on the feline front? I went on the local Cats Protection site recently - there were some lovely cats of all ages. Have you succumbed to a pair of Angua-esque shoes yet?
I see Mermaid is starting Merbaby off young!
Catch you later,

Of, course, Nifty. She's also well into aircraft - a family interest now (including Merbaby) for 3 (maybe 4) generations on Merman's side and 4 on mine.
'I recommend acceptance.'
Agree, Nifty. One thing I've learned is to accept compliments, gifts etc. graciously and with evident pleasure. I love giving people things, e.g. Peeps and a delighted response is so much nicer than 'oh, you shouldn't have, I don't deserve it.' So I do as I would be done by.
Not done a lot today, except what I said I'd do.
Like the idea of and Olympic Procrastination Team. We must put in some serious practice, but not today.

Fri, 04 Jun 2010 22:29 GMT,
Oooops! Meant to have posted this before today:
Was reading in a weekly women's magazine at work (c. May 2010) about Fern Britton the tv presenter and her battle with depression. Her husband, Phil Vickery, says he can tell when she's on a downer and changes his schedule to fit round her.
Fern says she takes a small dose of anti-depressants every day and accepts that she will probably be taking them for the rest of her life. More importantly, she says she views her depression as an illness similar to diabetes in that she will always have it, but it's not visible to others.
I admire her for being open and honest in this way.
I'm doped up to the eyeballs with medication and just doing a little.
At the moment I'm feeding and stroking a neighbour's cat whilst she's away for a week, which is taking me about 1 1/2 hours a day. I had a bit of fun yesterday, because she left a note asking me to put her rubbish and recycling boxes out, but didn't tell me where she'd left them. :D
I've kidnapped more of my father's laundry. I'm now up to four basketfulls of clean laundry, collected a shopping trolleyfull at a time. When I'm up to six baskets full, I shall hire a taxi and take it all round there. I also seized some stuff to throw away and changed his bedlinen. I like doing laundry - I find it soothing.

Doh! I thought you were all a bit quiet :0)) Of course I saw that the previous thread wasn't being contributed to so didn't look and see that we had moved!
We've spent a couple of days gardening which suits OH very well and we're pootling off in the camper tomorrow for a week. We have a family gathering in Norfolk then we're going to swing up to Yorkshire to the coast to look at birds nesting.
Must get on at the mo ... will have a read back in due course.
Well done Sunny :0)) Pop Brian in with your father's washing and give him something to think about!!!
Morning all. Another sunny day and I'm feeling a bit better as I'm going to see relatives for the night. Had an ok day yesterday with the older girl I look after, but a bit of a wobbly bit in the evening when I just started crying and had to hastily sort myself out when the little girl appeared unannounced. The older girl was a bit down as they had a kitten put down the night before so it was good just spending a quiet day with her. I've only been here a few weeks but it was really upsetting going to the vets with them to put the poor cat down especially as she was so young. I'm not really a "cat person" but I'm definitely an animal lover so seeing any animal in pain or having to be put to sleep is horrible.
Sunny, you could move in with me if you like - there's an abundance of washing to do here. And a cat to spoil, and kittens on the way. And plenty of other animals to "play" with. Of course you'd have to put up with me nagging you to eat properly and take your meds etc. (Saves WfM a job tho I suppose).
{{{{Hugs}}}} to all who need them. What's for breakfast today?
