The Candle Thread has given me and lots of others support and a quiet moment of reflection.
I would now like to start a thread for when you are screaming from the roof tops with fantastic things that have happened to you, but RL friends might find trivia.
I shall make a start.
I am about to be a pretend granny for the second time to a young lady I regard as the daughter I never had, so Party Poppers are popping here.
Congratulations Betsi, I think that's lovely.

What a great idea

What a lovely idea Betsi ( and what splendid news). I really like the quiet contemplation that the candle thread affords and think that to have a sister thread for celebration is such a nice development ( rather like the minutes applause that is sometimes done in preference to a minutes silence when to quote a well loved Archers phrase "it is what he/she would have wanted". I look forward to celebrating lots of their happy news with my ML friends.

WR So do I
This is an opportunity to celebrate even the smallest things that are important to you as an individual.
Party poppers for all those who've received good exam results. Especially for DD who's just got a 2:1 and is heading out of uni a very different young lady than when she started.
I am sooooooooooo proud!!!!!!!
Oh Lizzie I was thinking similar things today, been to visit DD who is still awaiting her results, but already been accepted onto a Masters and has a job to go to (employers paying for masters). I too am so proud of her achievements, well deserved - she has worked hard.
She too is now a young woman, when she left 3 years ago she was a girl...
Well done to your daughter, isn't it lovely to be a proud mum?
jp
Jp,
Well done your DD and well done you!
Yes it is wonderful, but it's so hard letting go isn't it? Been through it once before, and still have another one to go next term.
Hope you all enjoy Graduation Day - have you got a new frock??
Liz
Heard this week a very poorly lad I taught 2 years ago has now received his kidney transplant and is doing very well.
My thoughts also with his parents and older brother.
A time to celebrate!
Update
Daughter was awarded a 2:1
Proud mum and dad here, delighted (and relieved) daughter in Lancaster
jp
Whoo hoo!

My 63 year old friend, who was widowed traumatically (case against hospital pending), had never learnt to drive has just passed her driving test. I think that is just cause for celebration!
Congrats to the young pottering!

For years and years I have collected seeds from red poppies whenever I see them ... we seem to grow large purple ones and tiny yellow ones in our garden very easily ... and at long last we have 3 red poppies in our garden!
I can't tell you the pleasure we have had from these three flowers!
I rather like the sentiments under this picture too.

Sunshine, lolipops, and rainbows everywhere and ..... (sorry, cannot recall the rest of this song but ,,,).
Its DD's 40th in a couple of days and my 60th in December. After much angst, we have decided to go to the restaurent with many stars in October, between our birthdays, to OUR football club in December (posh box and everything!) and a very, very expensive jewellers (you know the type of thing, buzz prior to be letting in - well I hope some of you know cos I have never been in that type of place in my life!) for DD's birthday. I feel Like a million dollars!
Just to put this in perspective, I was diagnosed with lung cancer on 13/11/09. So we (my family and I) will celibrate!! Holiday!! (Ed, you are NOT Maddona)
cap. sorry, not Maddona - hate that Ed but loving life.

OK, here's my bit of celebrating to add to all the lovely stuff upthread.
My son, who clearly channels Dennis the Menace and William Brown as he is //always// in scrapes at school, got an award yesterday.
It was from his footie team and it was for being the most improved player over the past season. He's a year younger than the rest of the team, has only been in the team a year and now regularly makes the starting line up whereas at first he spent an awful lot of time on the touch line.
It's a trophy, it's got his name on it and he's taken it into school today to show the rest of the class and the teachers. Hoorah!!!

Well, I haven't got anything to post here at the moment, but would like to congratulate betsi on a fantastic idea & all those who have reason to post here. Sometimes you want to share Stuff, but it might seem to some people in RL that you're showing off in some way/you get on their nerves.
Lovely idea to have a thread where you can just enjoy it.
Top idea, Betsi.
I often feel slightly out of place for talking of the good, happy occurences on the candle thread - though they justify some candles too, don't them?
I'm feeling pretty good today, for no obvious reason - just glad to be alive this sunny day, I guess, and because my bestest lily has started to open its glorious flowers.

Smoctus ... we too are delighted a lovely blue iris has decided that today is the day it will open and show us how beautiful it is. You wouldn't think one flower could have so many shades of brilliant blue! It will only last a couple of days in this top condition, but that makes it all the more special.
Agreeing with tilly trolley.
Thanks to Betsi for a lovely idea.
I read regularly and feel as though I'm sharing in everyone's happy news.
It's such a nice thread.
This evening I emerged from leading a yoga session, into the most beautiful sunshine ever!
Wow, what an evening almost at the end of this Midsummer month!!
Tomorrow or the day after, we are promised a big storm, but today we have THIS to celebrate.
Sal, who does appreciate Betsi's thread.
I know there are many people who really don't take to this unusual heat, but for me it's blissful. I'm hugely enjoying, even, not sleeping much and wandering round the garden in the not-quite-dark, sniffing lilies and roses and discussing matters of moment with the cats who wander with me.
And we have TWINS newly arrived in the family! A first.

Twins is trouble Smoctus :0))
I have twin brothers and they were Trouble (with a capital T). I don't know why I put 'were Trouble' as they are STILL Trouble and they are 65 now!
When they get together it is dreadful!! When they were little they spoke a language noone else could understand.

Well done Betsi - good idea for a thread.
Haven't actually got anything to celebrate at the moment but it is nice to have a happy thread and congratulations to all with good news to share.
TWINS - Smoctus!
Girls or Boys or a Mix??!
Lovely news.
Sal
Yup Sal!
My cousin S's latest grandchildren.
I promptly emailed back to enquire what sort, but think S must have gone to fulfill her grandmotherly duties. Or she has been felled by the news ...
And westie, I've heard of twins using this private language before. In that case it lasted right up to the start of school, through Nursery where they were indeed Trouble.
Exciting innit!

I don't know where to start as all the lovely news that has been posted here about flowers, graduations, babies etc has been lovely to read. I'm pleased so many of you also share my feelings about this thread. I do hope it keeps going.
My news is really trivia but I am thrilled. DOS is bringing his girlfriend home to meet us tomorrow - his words not mine. In the past any new young lady, with all of my sons, have just sidled through the door until one day you realise they seem to be here a great deal....This is a first in my life!

Lili and Betsi, your posts have made me smile. Until a week or so ago our daughter kept assuring us ( not that we minded either way, he is lovely) that she and her now boyfriend were just friends ( he was round here all the time so we recognised the signs). We kind of guessed that the situation had changed but when asked she told us that they had only just decided to update their facebook statuses to "in a relationship" as if that was what made it official and as if it were the only way to announce the news.

Oh well, whitby, I suppose each generation has its own way of formalising things. It's the modern equivalent of publishing the banns, I take it? [smiley winky emoticon]
Oh Betsi and Lili, that is indeed cause for a balloon or two and the party poppers!
Goodness, I'd forgotten that 'meeting mother' business. Do I take flowers? Booze? Will she put me through the 3rd degree? Facebook might have been a whole lot easier!

There is never a dull moment as a parent is there?
I suppose that my cause for celebration re the new boyfriend is that he is lovely and seems to value my daughter highly. She had a very difficult relationship when she was younger and so this feels good to me as her mam.
The lady in question has left after a good weekend.
Another first ticked off the list and a happy Betsi here!

Well done you Betsi :0)
Glad your weekend was happy, Betsi. It's so nice when our older children bring new people to our families. We are very fond of our soon-to-be son in law and our daughter in law is lovely. Our first grandchild is due on Christmas Eve and our youngest son (age 14) made me smile when he said that we'll have to buy a bigger dining table for Christmas dinner this year because the family is getting so big.
After the loss of my dear dad recently all this happy news is such a gift.

It's just about my favourite picture from flickr, the photo sharing website.
Just thought I'd share, such a nice thread.
I'm off to visit mother-in-law tomorrow to take her out to tea for her 90th Birthday. When given the choice of anywhere she would like for tea, she said Mc D*nalds, as she hadn't been there for years....
We will however have a knees-up on the day itself (Tuesday).

As has been mentioned elsethread (but I'm poaching it for this one anyway):
62nd anniversary of our NHS !!
yacker yacker yacker, zip crackle of fireworks, popping of balloons, ding dong merrily on high, zipperdy dooday ... who's da greatest, then?
And hands off our national treasure, all pirates!

Smoctus, amongst our inherited treasures (stored in tin trunks and leather suitcases in the roof) is the little booklet that was distributed to everyone when the NHS was born.
Happy Birthday to Mrs Beanys Mother in Law :0))
