I have been offered a Trans Obturator Tape for a Pelvic Organ Polapse.... Is anyone prepared to tell me if they have had one and what the operation was like..... i don't fancy it much....
Thanks.

No, but a friend has had /some/ operation or other for that and I can check with her whether it was that.

Thanks DD
The leaflet says it is a common op....Hummm!
Actually, I see I have it wrong.... Must read more carefully. The tape is for stress incontinence..... which I also have.
There is another op for the bladder prolapse. ... I need both. Blimey...

Ah. She didn't have a bladder prolapse, so it won't be the same op, but I know that hundreds and hundreds are done at the Western General and it is pretty routine. I obviously don't know your particular circs though.

Yes, everyone and everything tells me it's common..... Perhaps it's not something that is spoken of.... I want to know if it hurt much afterwards.....!
No personal experience, locki, but I'd hazard a guess that stress incontinence, especially in women who've given birth the usual way, has got to be one of the most common and least-discussed problems around.

Oh goody....I'm glad I'm not the only woman who walks around with an industrial water catchment system tucked into her knickers.
suze...one of life's drips.

Can I fly the flag for good gynae physiotherapists?
I heart our physios, they came up with a set of exercises for me (including some using a device I have to keep well hidden from curious offspring) that have drastically reduced my belief that I need an op. Hurrah.
Worth checking out, as my physio said, even if I ended up with surgery good muscle tone would make it easier for the surgeon to do well.

Thanks for the replies.... primrose... I did see someone who gave me a sheet of excercises.... Have not had the offer of a device..... oooer.
Sorry locki, I can't shed any light either.
And I hope I will be forgiven for invading your thread but my problem is vaguely related and thought it might be silly to start another with a very similar title.
After my regular six monthly check up, my GP phoned for me to collect a script for antibiotics (Alprim) as I apparently have a UTI.
I don't understand how this could be as I have absolutely no symptoms...none. And FWIW there's been no "activity" for the longest time.
So, how will I know if I'm cured?

As one who religiously performed all the prescribed exercises both in pregnancy and for 30 subsequent years, I don't want to depress you, but they're no match for old age and hereditary! (I'm currently trying to pluck up the courage to have a double prolapse repaired!)
Hi furiouslocki
Several years ago my friend saw a gynae physio and she recommended a product to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles called Aqua Flex. Don't know if they still have that make, but it might be worth popping into a chemists to find out. I wish you well.

Welcome aboard snip.... The only reason I am considering operations is that I have recurring UTIs. I guess this cannot be a good thing and will eventually result in more major damage. I would put up with the condition otherwise.... although that is probably not sensible..
My Mum has also has a prolapse and has had a pessary refitted every 6 months for years and years... She is nearly 88 now! This is an option for me..... but I don't like the idea of that either.
I would be more confident about the operations if
I didn't have a phobia about blood clots after these. my father had a stroke that was caused by a clot..... mY surgeon pointed out that it is more common after leg surgery and this is not my leg....
I also have raised BP and a slightly leakingheart valve andthat worries me if I have to have a general anasthetic..... I am gradually falling apart....... And I won't mention all the leg and feet surgery I have deferred becaus eof my phobia.....

My Mum has advanced osteoporsis, she is practically bent double now and I am going to see the doctor this week about having a bone density test.... to see if I can avoid this bequest.....! I am not bent but the top of my back from my neck is now wxactly the same shape as my Mum.s So far I have inherited evey damned condition she has had..... including an early hysterctomy... On the other hand her longevity is very good.....!
My mum is slight, was always so proud of saying slim, although we were the same height, I am hefty.... I am hoping that will ward off the osteoporosis...

Trans Obturator tape.
Forgive me for invading, but in my male way I am in the same position(more or less) as you ladies here.
My bladder problems are the result of radiotherapy (there's a misnomer if ever I heard one) administered after surgery for prostate cancer.
Now, after a cystoscopy(camera) I have been told that there is no hope of ever being without an 'indwelling' catheter to drain my bladder and even the possibility of severing the urethra from the bladder to stop continual incontinence.
Thanks for posting that info. WW.
I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. Never ceases to amaze me how much some people endure and send you all good wishes and wish you well.

Is your device a kegal toner? Just curious, as I have a set of aqua flex weights.
