I saw bird of prey a couple of days ago.
We have buzzards, red kites, sparrowhawks, kestrels, owls and a pair of harriers (not sure which sort) round here.
But this one was flying - not stooping - oddly. It was big - at least buzzard sized, though of course I don't know how near/far it was against the sky. But it was flying with half folded wings - and I mean flying/gliding.
Now, what does that?

I think ravens dive like that.
Also, we've seen them flying along and flipping onto their backs for a few seconds, just for fun apparently.

It wasn't diving.
A raven is possible, though. They do aerobatics on a windy day, though this was gliding more than anything.

It's probably no help, but I found this amazing film of ravens doing acrobatics.
Did it have a forked tail? In which case it was a Red Kite
We have a pair of them in our village - I saw one today. They are magnificent

No - I have red kites hunting regularly over my garden. And buzzards.
Do you find the red kites come over more when you're bbq-ing? I'm positive they sniff it firing up and come over i hope of a tasty morsel! It was bin day today & they were swooping around - hoping to scavenge something possibly...

I don't dare bbq - painting my garden furniture was enough to end summer.
Look what happened when I acquired a bbq /last/ year!
So you were responsibe for last year's non-summer?
You'd think, what with being a withc, you'd have some influence...
