Good morning, afternoon or evening to all. Sparkleering has been detained and so asked me to open the thread, as I seem to have been welcomed as a friend to the group. I have put out some chairs in the Village Hall, and filled up the urn in the kitchen. All are welcome.

I have no intention of revealing my weight, and we don’t want you to do so either. It is very discouraging to find that after celebrating achieving a particular weight, someone else is bemoaning that they are far too fat at the same weight! The last thing we need here is any reason to lose motivation.

We all agree that it is important to eat healthily – and so I am joining you, by cutting down on the condensed milk, and eating more fish.

I am not very good at these link thingamajigs, so sparkleering has promised to pop them on later, if nobody else does it first.

The urn is boiling nicely now, so help yourself to hot drinks – but please remember to wash up and put the mugs away – the caretaker can be a bit grumpy if we forget.

I have to go now – nice meeting you all.

    Prof Bear [waving paw]

[pops back again] - and bye the way, the equinox is very soon - and you are all invited to our equinox party - where all the food and drink will be free of calories.

Thanks for stepping in, Prof Bear!

I'll add the usual links we have:

GEm's Cyber Gym (to remind us about exercise)

Katy's Cookbook (to help us to eat wonderful things that won't be fattening)

The Rota thread (where we take it in turns to start a new thread every week)

Thankyou very much, Prof Bear. I think this is yet another way in which MFC is different from many other groups - how many have their weekly meeting opened by a professorial bear, after all?

Waist this morning is the same as last month and the month before and the month before... which is July 2009 minus three inches, which is "overall good" but it's September 2009 plus three inches which is "not so good".

Portion size and treats - as ALWAYS for me - are the downfall. Evening treat nibbles must be tackled, and portions must be whittled. I have bought some sausages for tonight, and intend to eat TWO and freeze the rest in pairs. Also they are chipolatas so are smaller than the big fat ones, although v good quality so should taste nice (and one-third price as on their sell-by!).

Dread Energy Drinks: not perfect, but more days without than with. Sunday, I didn't even realise til bedtime that I hadn't had one all day, and one day last week I had the rather nice experience of tidying up round my knitting chair at bedtime and finding that the only DED I had succumbed to that day was sitting there, opened but untouched. So I tipped it away. I rather liked that - I bought one, opened it, but then absent-mindedly forgot about it, hurrah. The "fake DED" are working well - tall narrow cans of lemonade, the same shape as DEDs, which I have with caffeine tablets in the morning but keep absent-mindedly forgetting in the afternoon so quite often I've had no caffeine apart from the morning - Sunday I actually had no caffeine at all all day.
    This is good...

KOKO everyone, with whatever your own personal temptations are, and with the general "eat nice, eat small" and "keep up the exercising" that we all have to accept, whichever path we're taking!

Thankyou both - but thanks to the whole MFC/ Healthy Eating over the last months, as I really have had you all in my mind as I evade the DEDs... I wasn't joking when I posted last week that I walked along muttering out loud "think of mustard... think of mustard..." as I avoided the usual shop!!

...... phew - comes rushing in.

Glad to see that the bear opened up - but I'm not sure we all want to know about his condensed milk addiction - and thanks Lost for adding the links.

Was it Laura who mentioned evening nibbles and treats? That is my downfall. I have a weakness for Osaka hot crackers - and they are so moreish that I now have to incorporate them into my lunch rather than have them as nibbles. I have also got some little tiny boxes and I limit myself to what will fit inside one.

Local apple farm is now selling loads of interesting little tiny apples - which make a lovely treat between meals if hungry.

I would be interested to hear what everyone else does for nibbles - or are you all so strong willed that you don't have them?

You used "little tiny" twice, sparkers, and it sums up my efforts!

I buy little tiny miniature bars of chocolate, little tiny chunks of fudge (Waitrose Cooks' Supplies, each chunk less than 1/4 inch!), ditto milk chocolate, instead of a 100g bag of lovely fruit jelly sweets, I buy the tiny jelly diamonds used for cake decorating, ditto mini-marshmallows... then arrange just a few on a tiny dish... all very miniature really smiley - smiley

That 100-calorie cup-sundae still gets eaten... it's ice-cream, toffee sauce and grated dark chocolate but it's in a very small little pretty teacup so I calculated the quantities once and it was something like 108 calories!

But I MUST use those miniatures more often... too many fullsize treats lately!

Nibbles... the problem is once I start with one nibble, I tend to go on and on until the nibble is nearly a meal in itself.

I've improved a lot in that I can usually cope with fruit or vegetables (eg carrot/ celery sticks) being the 'nibble'... but if I start on cheese or bread as a nibble, it very soon becomes the equivalent of a full-blown lunch.

I'd like to be strong-willed enough only to eat three meals a day. Some days I manage this. Some I definitely don't...

Oh Westie I would die in a day or two on that diet! But each to her own ......
Me, I'm a protein baby. Boiled egg for breakfast, a touch of ham for lunch, nibble of cheese when I was driving home and a small tin of salmon for supper.
It is weird and wonderful to be in my own home. For 48 hours, perhaps. What a lovely place this is. Do I really live here?
Lots to catch up on on the last thread. You know why I've been 'away'.

Westie - respect! I have never met anyone who could eat 4 wheetabix before (!!!) smiley - winkeye Assume that was a typo. I think I'd be starving on your diet

    Today's food

Breakfast: Porridge made with water with fresh figs and 3 mugs of tea
Mid morning: Tea with 2 rice cakes
Lunch: Chicken noodle cup a soup, salad sandwich made with 2 slices of home made spelt and walnut bread, lettuce, toms and cucumber, 2 yoghurts
Mid afternoon: Tea and a couple of small apples
Supper: Lentil Stew with jacket potato and cabbage, strawberries and figs and even more tea

I shall be in the gym this afternoon for a 10k run and 30 mins of weights so lots of water in there too.

I plan snacks in to my day depending what I am doing - if you like a snack then plan it in then it might do away with those feelings of needing to eat "Something"

FP - sorry you're feeling low. Anything we can help with?

I came back from honeymoon a couple of weeks ago and had inevitably put on some weight (it would have been obcene if I hadn't!), however I'm now really struggling to get back in to the swing of things and having real difficulties getting back to my previous level of fitness.

Finding it all very frustrating so I might just lurk around at the back and try get some tips....

Fluffles ... I often don't know what on earth to say so sometimes go and find a picture on flickr instead :0) It's invidious to pick out names but GEm has a way with words too. Sometimes I look at that thread and just shut my eyes and click away from it.

Your problems are problems just as much as other people's problems are. It's not a competition so don't hide your problem under a bushel (never did quite get the hang of the Bible stories) but know that whatever is upsetting you at this time is the pits and we are all sorry for it.

I've been whinging on about my hurty knee .... it's nothing compared to how I see other people hobbling into the doctors' surgery but it's my knee and I wish it wasn't painful ... so no more talk of your problems not being real enough :0)

GEm, no, not a typo .... so respect is in order :0)) I have some meds to take immediately before food on waking (to ameliorate the effects of subsequent pills) so a couple of Wbix/skimmed milk is easy and not calorific and does't need or have sugar, and those pills need an hour or so to kick in before you have anti inflams which in turn have to be taken with or after food ... so it seemed to me that Wbix fits the bill ... I was having muesli, but my weight is creeping up and so I have replaced it with Wbix. It's a while since we had Wbix in the cupboard!

I saw the doc last night and have been referred to a specialist who will see me in nine days time. Whoopee. A tennis colleague of OH's went to the same clinic for knee injuries and was very happy. He had half his knee replaced within six weeks of the referral... not bad for the NHS! I was worried in case these clinics are no longer authorised to take NHS patients in the interests of saving money. My Xray showed nothing wrong with the bones so that is a huge relief ... but I gather cartilage can have arthritis too (that sounds odd) so perhaps that's what's happening.

Enuff .... I hope you are all having a good day.

Am going early tomorrow to try to sort it. If no one leaps into the breach I will cry. I am a pratt.
What happened was that I have a carer for one of the kids in my class so I counted her as a helper BUT she can't come because she is also a dinner lady and has to be in the kitchen by 11.15 and we won't be back. Morning all,

wandering back in to restart serious attention to my weight. Have pretty much maintained since I was last in, and am less than when I first crossed the threshold of the MFC - so that's good - but deffo heavier than I should be for a healthy heart etc.

Decided to concentrate on getting between 5 and 10 portions of fruit and veg a day and reduce wheat protein - I've been fairly bloated since I let bread back into my life. So far today had a cuppa and a mashed banana on two slices of ryvita. Need to get myself organised to put the hoover round and do some ironing but no other major stuff needing done today so hopefully no stress eating.

Portmanteau good thoughts for all the sad and worried MFCers.

I'm eating more bread than usual but I know exactly why that is: because the homemade greengage jam is so yummy that I keep having bread or toast so I can have more jam!!

    Tuesday's food:
Breakfast - two slices multigrain bread, with butter and jam
Lunch - one slice of toast with pork pate, one with butter and jam. Two apples
Supper - big packet of purple sprouting broccoli with homemade french dressing, two sausages.

That would be a fairly good day, if there hadn't been a ring at the doorbell with the delivery of a bouquet of flowers and a box of very lovely chocolates from a dear friend overseas for me. The box of chocolates apparently evaporated during the afternoon, oops.
Although, the entire contents were 105g, so not as bad as most boxes, plus they made me smile enormously as my friend forced the Interflora chappie to ask for "the indescribably lovely Miss Laura [surname]" which reduced us both to giggles! I shall do this (special request for "the marvellously wonderful Mr Joe Bloggs", etc) every time I send flowers, as the laughing did me so much good!

I also walked 8,000 steps - not quite my 10k, but it was in 3-inch heels, so maybe used extra calories? (In training for starting teaching my evening class later this week - very very nervous after all that's happened, so need to look grown-up)

Comfy cords, jumper and trainers for today; look a mess but finally Getting My Act Together in other ways...

    KOKO all!

So, how did the trip go, Boo? Your OH sounds like mine: eminently sensible and reasonable and, as a consequence, quite frustrating! It's very hard not to worry when you do it as a default setting, isn't it?!

I hope things went better than anticipated and that Pinga's birthday was great.

It's very quiet in here today... hope that means everyone is well!

I am still hard at work, printing off masses of paperwork for the blessed inspection next week. At least I don't have time to eat unnecessarily...!

I am pleased to report that after things got worse (my student rang in sick leaving me 2 adults down!) my colleagues swung into action and we left on time, with a full complement of adults and had a lovely time!

As I was out all morning on the trip I spent less time head down in a biscuit tin and this evening I have managed to eat only half of my pizza ( Wednesday is Pizza night...... one has to have food one enjoys I feel!)

Pinga had a good birthday, her little face when she saw her dolls' house (where does that apostrophe go?) was a delight to behold.

I have refrained from her cake.

Really pleased to hear that, I thought it would prolly come out right in the end (having been dragooned into a zoo trip in similar circs when I was 17)

    Food diary for today.

Banana and ryvita for breakfast. Oatcakes, ryvita, humous, toato and a mini babybel at lunch.

Evening meal of jacket potato with steamed veg (onions, r + g peppers, celery, carrots, mushrooms) and some cottage cheese.

During the course of the day I had about an ounce of dark chocolate and several cups of tea.

Two days without wheat so far, few cravings for it.

Primrose ... it's lovely to see you :0)) You say you've managed to maintain and that is brilliant ... well done ... it is so easy to let weight creep back on.

Laura and her greengage jam ... We went to Firle Place today the home of the Gage family and they were selling greengage jam in the shop! Well done you.

Lost ... lost under piles of paperwork :0)

Boo I'm so glad the day worked out well after all. I hope Pinga had a good third birthday too.

Primrose, you mention having dark chocolate, and we had the choice of cakes etc to have with coffee this morning and chose a small bar or 70 percent coco chocolate instead of anything else. OH was eyeing up what appeared to be lovely chocolate cake, £2.70 a slice, so we had 2 little bars of quality chocolate at 90p each ... daylight robbery really, but better for us and cheaper than the cake!

I keep forgetting about celery. Must get some.

    Cheers chums.

I've been wondering about changing my board name to Westsussexbird-Birdy instead of Westsussexbird-Westie I got called Westie when I first joined but people think it's because I like westie dogs, and I don't particularly but I do like birds .... would it be odd if I called myself Birdy? What do you guys think ... this is pretty much my main thread.
