Hi all. Here is a plea from the heart – not just my heart but that of a friend of mine. This is the story of Miette:
Miette appeared in my friend’s garden in the early summer, looking neglected. She was scruffy and undernourished, had fleas and worms. She was just a kitten then, and obviously very needy. She returned time and time again to my friend’s house, to be given food and water. My friend, I should add here, is allergic to cats and cannot take Miette in, however much she would love to. She did, however, take this little girl to the vet to be neutered, and she has treated her for worms and fleas, and made sure that this sweet little bi-coloured girl is as fit as she can be. She has made her a dry shelter in her garden, and provided bedding and a toy or two.
However, winter is coming, and my friend is travelling for all of November and December. We just can’t bear the thought of this pretty (and she really IS very pretty indeed) kitten, wandering off to take her chance on busy roads and in the winter’s cold.
Is there anyone out there who will offer Miette a loving home. I must stress that she is really, really loving. When picked up she puts her head up to your face, looks at you upside down, and purrs. She bumps noses, and pats your cheek when you cuddle her I have rarely seen such an attractive and affectionate little cat. She is just longing to have a home, and sits outside my friend’s window gazing in. Such a shame, but my poor friend is very allergic, and a cat in the house is just not an option.
I have my fingers crossed that there is a home out there for Miette.
xxx

Ali, little Miette sounds an absolute delight, and I hope she gets a lovely home very soon. She is certainly the kind of cat who *should* be easily homeable - not like the old, semi-feral, special need lot that are my first love really.
Like Flakes, I wish I could help. Indeed, if I lived on the same side of the Channel because I'd offer her a home like a shot.
As we were saying about lost cats in France, would Facebook be any good, if push comes to shove, or would it be too difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff from the responses? I mean, homes would need to be checked out, so very local would be best of course - even better if sort of on Miette's home turf, so it wouldn't matter if she got out of her new home before she was settled.
Keeping everything crossed.

ohhhhh she sounds lovely and I would be sooooo tempted if you were in the same country as me; Harry came to me a stray looking for love and a home. He now has his paws firmly under the table (Ed. on the armchar actually - he likes a bit of comfort!)

Hi Flakes, Rusters and Jane
Thanks for your quick responses.
I thought of FB Rusters but I would much, much prefer to rehome her from this website, where we (sort of) know each other. I'd trust anyone in the cat thread completely, and I'm hoping and hoping that someone there can offer little Miette a home.
And I wish we could bring her to the UK, but she'd need a passport and rabies injection, and all that takes at least six months which is a long time in catworld. I'm so hoping that we can manage her a home before then.
My friend is just too, too allergic to cope, even with the wonderful stuff you can get to clean cats' fur and deal with the dander etc. And besides, she just travels so much anyway, it wouldn't be a good solution in the long run.
Everything crossed here.

Ali, I know what you mean. Perhaps it would be good to post the link to this thread from time to time in the CC, so as many people as possible see it.

Greetings to all pusses and their peeps.
Just want to add my little voice to Ali-Cat's: Miette is a sweetie with a lovely personality. Fingers and paws all crossed that we can find the right home for her.
Here's an update on one of the abandoned cats I rescued earlier this year: she's only just now been well enough to have an operation to remove some manky teeth that were giving her problems. The vet's taken most of her teeth out (apparently they were really bad) and I'm amazed and relieved to say that she's much, much happier and coping well with eating. She's grooming more too. Big purrs all round.

What area of France are you in ali-cat? Rough area would do.

It's OK - I've just googled.

Hi Franglaise, you know the whole of the Cat Club and points beyond are rooting for Miette, don't you?!
I'm so glad your lovely rescue cat from earlier in the year was well enough to have the dental extractions she really needed. I am not surprised it has made a difference; it really is miserable for them to have sore mouths and the threat - or worse - of infections. (Said with feeling, I am having a back tooth out tomorrow myself.)
I'm always surprised how quickly cats' gums heal and how able they are to tackle even raw meat and chicken wings soon afterwards.
I hope we hear good news about Miette in a wonderful new home very soon.

Good luck at the dentist, Rusty!
The vet had to wait to do the dental extractions because she really wasn't well, so I was fearful for her, what with the anaesthetic as well as the pain I imagined she'd be in, but I couldn't believe how quickly she recovered from the surgery. She's soooo much happier.
Yes, I know everyone's on the look out for a home for Miette. Just wanted to add my voice and good wishes, having met her, with Ali-Cat.
We found a lovely home for Mimi and little Dora, bless her, RIP, through the lovely people on here, so I'm hoping Ali can find someone for Miette too.

Where are you, then? I'm in S.W.Spain. She can live with me if you can get her here, but perhpas you're a long way away. I have a male kitten/cat, whom I found, or he found me, abandoned in a car park. He was, I mean. He was so thin and ragged, I didn't think he'd survive, but he's fine, about 4-5 months old. He's called Miip. He'd love to have a sister and I'd love it, too.
I live in France really, but I haven't actually got a home there at the moment and shan't try to go back and search for one before spring. Are you in France?

Sorry, I've just seen that she's in the Haute Vienne. I suppose that really is too far. Unless I found someone who's driving down.
She does sound a sweetie.

In case you don't find anyone nearer, I've asked two pet transport companies for prices and will ask on local expat forum, too, in case anyone's driving that way. (But you don't know me, so might not want to trust me anyway.)

Never underestimate the power of Mustardland Llo
Hope something works out for Miette.

Llo - how lovely, I've just seen your messages and what a kind person you are.
Yes, we're in SW France, and I don't know the regulations for transporting a live animal over the border, but we can always find out. My email address is in Peet's, and feel free to contact me for further chat and info.
Looby - yes, ML is a truly MagicaL place.
Little Miette is such a gorgeous, beautiful cat. I wish we could have her, I really do. But our two would be broken hearted, and I owe it to them not to disrupt their serene lives. And also it's not just Miette really, there are so many little cats needing loving homes, we can't do it for them all.
Fingers crossed for a new life for her.
xx

I'll email you this evening. If it has to be before November, there's not much time. Better keep looking elsewhere, in case we can't get her sent here, but I hope we can. Has your friend asked on her regional AngloInfo forum? I know the Poitou-Charentes AI forum has some cat-mad people. I want and hope to have her, but it is a long way and there's only just over a week to go. Perhaps a Poitou-Charentes cat-madder would take her temporarily. Has your friend at least found someone to go in and feed Miette and talk to her? There may be a rescue place that'd take her temporarily, till she can come here or elsewhere.

Llo - Miette will be taken by my friend Franglaise to live in her house temporarily, later this week as Franglais is not around today and tomorrow. She can't keep Miette though, she has her own cats plus one other rescued one, all living in different parts of her house. And I can't (sadly) take this darling little girl, Milli and Jones would be very upset and stressed and I can't bring myself to do this to them.
We are keeping everything crossed to find a lovely home for her, and you are so kind to keep thinking of her and being so concerned for her. We will ensure that until she has a proper secure home she won't be lonely or cold or frightened. But we have to find her a home of her own.
Ali-cat with paws crossed.

Oh, thank goodness! I've been feeling so upset and sorry for her, all cold and lonely. I've had an answer from one transporter, who can't do it so didn't give a price, and am waiting for the other, but I know it'll be too much. I've also emailed someone who may be able to collect her and bring her for just a few euros, but don't know yet - depends whetehr he's already done the journey or is about to. And if I do go back to France before you find her someone, I'll take her gladly and make sure she's all right and she could sleep with me and the Evil One.
(Who i think is learning the new no-human-flesh rules already, as his brain, being young, is much faster than mine.)

Ah we're all trying so hard for this little girl. I know I keep saying it, but she is so very charming, pretty and just so cuddly. I do want her myself, but honestly, Jones and Milli would be very unhappy. They are our own furry tyrants, demand knees and love all the time, and we take them walks up their garden, they just love their lives with us and this would disrupt their happines. They only have little lives and we owe it to them to make those lives the best we can.
Your Boy sounds as if he's a clever chap. Get the cut done and he'll be fine. Jones never even noticed, but he was younger.
The cat lovers of ML will manage something for Miette, I'm sure of that.
