Welcome to our thread. We are here for anyone with mental health difficulties, be they mild, moderate or severe, and anyone who cares for someone with mental health difficulties.
We welcome both participants and lurkers, and lurkers are welcome to delurk as much or as little as they like.
We share our experiences, swap help and advice and have a smile along the way. Both serious and light-hearted posts have their place on here.
We encourage people to feel able to say how bad things are without the need to apologise for it. Sometimes we need to give and sometimes we need to take and both have a place here.
You may find yourself a little puzzled about some of the creatures you encounter here.
Brian is our resident hamster. He visits various of us at night, rushing round and keeping our minds racing. We do our best collectively to keep him under control.
You will meet two sorts of Peeps on here. As elsewhere on the Internet, the term is used to mean people, but some people on here also have little pocket-sized crochet birds in assorted colours available on request to those who find them a comfort.
Sometimes when Brian has stopped rushing around, people can feel treacly, which is when it feels like their head is full of treacle or like they're wading through treacle.
We do our best to help people in distress, but if you are in crisis, do consider calling the Samaritans in the UK 08457 90 90 90 www.samaritans.org/ (Befrienders Worldwide elsewhere www.befrienders.org/) or contacting your GP, your mental health team or your local Emergency Department. Suicidal thoughts may subside if shared, but if not, treat them as an emergency.
So settle down with your favourite drink and share this thread with us.
Thanks Sunny

Oh dear! I thought we'd managed to leave you behind! Oh, well, now you're here, you can settle down up the corner and knit a field or two whilst waiting for the others to find us.
Anyone need a hug tonight now that we've got some?

Evening all. Thanks for the new thread Sunny. I've had a duvet day (but without the duvet) today. Given the weather outside, I think it was a wise choice.
Hope everyone else has had a good day.

Well, if you're not using your duvet, Rose, pass it over to Angua because she's clearly freezing there. I've got my little halogen heater, which is great even though it's only 400W. With the help of it, I reduced my fuel bills last year, despite the prices going up.

Am I having a Dr Who moment or what? Where am I? Where is Mustardland? What's all this snow about?
Sorry peeps, but I found you.
Hello all. Am pleased to be able to say the flooded out places are about 10 miles away from here - and I will never moan about the uphill climb home again! Having said that, it did throw it down here last night.
I tried catching-up but it wasn't working, so please forgive me if I have missed something important.

Oh good, we've got Nifty and Birdy, too.
I'm sitting here with mmy vibrating food warmer. It's quite large and heavy and at intervals requires refuelling with Kit-e-kat, which makes it a fairly expensive form of heating, but it has a comfort factor not to be rivalled by cheaper forms of footwear.

I've had a good day apart from a mild altercation in the chemist's. I didn't throw a wobbly but I wasn't at all happy. It wasn't my usual chemist's and the pharmacist wouldn't let me have something I usually have and told me to see my GP, but I shan't waste his time, I shall go tomorrow to my usual chemist's and get the matter sorted.

Just bookmarking.
Managed to get things achieved at work yesterday, coped with being stuck on M6 and unable to pick Mini-M up from school - thank goodness for my parents who having just got in from work turned right around & drove back the 8 mile journey to her school, took her home fed & entertained her til I got there at 7.15pm. At least I was only delayed and not actually involved in the accident.
The meeting for last night was cancelled and I managed to get some paperwork (almost) up to date.
Mini-M managed to go to sleep wthout me bring in bed with her, even though it was almost 10pm. A *very* long and ongoing problem with Mini-M being a night owl and nearly always awake til 10pm, but since returning from holiday she's been even worse.
Still got in car this am & was singing along with radio, even more entertainment as I was almost at work and two cows from the farm opposite the industrial estate decided to take a morning stroll down the main road.

I have managed to find the messageboards eventually. I can't believe that we now have to go such a roundabout way to access them, and that there isn't direct way - or is it just me and I am missing something obvious.

I bookmark the regular sites I use, My Discussions, TB, Facebook, ebay, etc and have them on the bookmark toolbar so go to them straight from there.
Much quicker.
Morning all.
Merman has a cat scan (Monster?) later this morning to see if his innards are still cancer clear.
Now my dilemma here is smilies. I don't like them. but on the other hand, a hug could be useful...........
Is there one for Brian?

Good afternoon. I trust Merman's scan has shown all is clear.
Very foggy on the hills here. Heading off to the stables in a bit to help out and to see if there's any news re a job. I've foolishly told my ex I'll go to a quiz that he's running tonight but as I haven't got a team and probably don't know anyone else there, I might just help him set up then escape.
Sunny you sound on good form which is great to see. Hope everything gets sorted with your regular chemist.
Cows on the road sounds familiar. And flocks of sheep being moved from one field to the next. Luckily round here that's the closest we get to traffic jams.
Waves and hugs to all.

err, computer numpty here WFM. By bookmark toolbar do you mean the strip at the top where you can put your favourite websites to go to straight away.Â
What I do is to use the drop-down menu called Bookmarks (that's in Firefox - it's called Favourites in IE) and at the top of the menu it says "bookmark this page". I click on that and it adds it to a list of favourite pages. I've got so many that they're arranged in folders. (I reckon I've got well over a hundred, maybe as many as two hundred, all arranged alphabetically within alphabetically-arranged folders.)
In Firefox, you can also add a button to your icon toolbar for it, and I think you can in IE, but I don't know how that works.
Hello.

All you got wrong is the fullstop after <quote

"Just experimenting."
All very weird.
Thanks for comments re Merman. I presume that unless there is something urgent showing, we'll be told next month whenhe has an appointment with the surgeon.
While we were waiting (Merman had to drink gallons of water) a young man came in, about 30, with his dad. the son spoke to us from time to time and asked if it were Merman's first scan. Merman explained that he'd had several.
Just before we left, i asked the YM if it were his first, and he said it was. He was clearly scared stiff, whether of the scan or of possible results, I don't know. I made him laugh by saying that the first time I had one, I thought the ceiling would open up and we'd take of into space.
Merman reassured him about it and as I had some of my charity teddies in my knitting bag, I gave him one as a gift. I think he appreciated it but was too anxious to say much. I hope it gives him a little comfort if he needs it. Somehow it seemed the right thong to do.
Right, off to have a shower.

No Mermaid, it was the best one .... flashing your thong at the young man he must have thought he'd hit the jackpot.
I've heard said that it's best to chase results as some people assume that no news is good news. So it is worth getting the results from the horses mouth rather than relying on the system.

Thinking of my good friend, L.
L and I go back about 20 years. Like myself, she has bipolar disorder. Over the years, we have spent countless hours on the phone, supporting each other through crisis after crisis.
A few years ago, she was diagnosed with MS because she had increasing problems walking and slurred her speech when tired.
Just before Christmas last year, she phoned to say that she'd been told she had a brain tumour and a life expectancy of less than six months. She also told me her landline had been cut off. I called her on the mobile number she gave me and spent £7 on a phone call. I said that if we were going to carry on like that, she should make some of the calls. She said that her landline would be up again soon, but she didn't call. I tried her mobile number but got a stranger. Either I got the number wrong or someone else had her mobile.
I had no idea whether she was dying or delusional, so I just waited for her to call again.
Then I was distracted by other friends and family with problems. But after my mother died, I wrote to my friend with a stamped addressed postcard inside and got a phone call from her.
She said she had Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome, which destroys the brain, and that she had a sort of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Basically, if one didn't kill her, the other would. Mentally, she was a total mess. She couldn't remember for more than a few minutes what she had said and was saying all sorts of strange stuff, but it seemed entirely consistent with what she said was wrong with her.
She didn't give me her new number and I didn't think to do a 1471. I can only contact her by letter, and quite frankly, since she seemed barely aware of what she was saying or what I was saying, I wasn't sure what the point was.
So it's nearly a year, she's dying, I have no telephone number. I shall send another stamped addressed card, but my hopes aren't high.
Just before Christmas last year, I also lost contact with two other close friends. One was a friend I had spoken with once a week for maybe five or six years, and I had reached the conclusion that we were drifting apart. I tried not phoning and she didn't phone back, so at Christmas, I phoned her and gently raised the subject of whether, maybe, such frequent contact was no longer appropriate. She agreed with me that she didn't want to lose touch, she valued me as a friend, but we'd moved apart.
Another was a friend who has a personality disorder and can be very manipulative. We had been good friends for over a decade, but it seemed to me to be that it was me doing most of the supporting and that she spent too much time trying my patience. "I've taken another overdose, come and rescue me" at three in the morning, once too often. I told her I was too tired to deal with it any more.
So in one year, I've effectively lost three good friends and my mother.
And tonight I feel lonely.
