Cheers,
The *conspiracy* to shut down the POV board for soooo long this year is so that by Jan 4th, people have forgotten how bad christmas TV was.
From my own personal situation, I welcome this board to come on and generally say inane things.

Looking at that list makes me think there isn't much on over Christmas, Hardly any films worth talking about either.
Link to this forum: Points Of View Christmas and New Year rthread
I have a very short list of what to possibly watch.
Christmas Eve:
Ö÷²¥´óÐã2: A ghost story of some sort
Ö÷²¥´óÐã1: Have I got News For You
Christmas Day:
Film4: The Time Machine (seen it many times)
Ö÷²¥´óÐã1: The One Ronnie
Ö÷²¥´óÐã1: Doctor Who (Not a fan, but I'll give it a go)
Ö÷²¥´óÐã2: Blackadder (Seen it before)
ITV3: Carry On Screaming (seen it before)
Film4: Young Frankenstein
Boxing Day:
ITV1: TV Burp
Ö÷²¥´óÐã1: Match of the Day
Ö÷²¥´óÐã2: Some sort of doc on the original Live AID.
Pretty sad stuff really.

This is a really good idea Laptop.
At the moment I am unable to post anything on the POV board.
Is it just me?
I've been frozen out.

It is a good idea, it's taken me a while to work out what the difference is between this thread and the green room thread, but I think I get it now (I think?)

Season's Greetings to all.

Well it seems that this is the only stable that has room for us POVers.....what the dickens is going on over there. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã is disgracefully managed, one hardly knows to whom to complain!!

So, I'll kick off with a point of view.
"My Family" tonight definitely lived up to expectations.
It was absolutely dreadful, I didn't raise a titter and mercifully snoozed through most of it.
Why do they keep bringing this tired old sit. noncom. back, it died years ago?
Link to this forum: Points Of View Christmas and New Year rthread
Not a very merry post, sorry for that.

So true Rabbit, so very true.
A quote from Sarah Dempster, The Guardian, 24th December 2010:
Robert Lindsay thinks Christmas is rubbish (studio lolz). Then he meets Ainsley Harriott and realises that it's actually much, much worse (applause, end credits). There have been funnier world wars.Â
Just about sums it up.

I enjoyed the new Upstairs Downstairs.........................except for the colour of the hall!! Blue is a tad cold for an entrance hall. The interiors are sumptuous, but I wish they hadn't bothered with the monkey at the table.
There are some good story lines to develop and Eileen Atkins is fabulous as Lady Maud. I'm looking forward to part 2 tonight.

Waves at Aunty Dawn < wave>
Lots of POV refugees have settled in the 'Green Room at the Inn
Where most are suffering from various seasonal ills, coughs, colds, broken boilers and burst pipes.
That there film 'Gomorrah' looks worth a watch.

Waving excitedly back at the Guv-nor.
I posted on that thread a while back, but it's all about snuffles and gutters.................................not really my thing.
Never mind.
There's also a good French film on soon. The last offering on Film 4 on New Year's Eve.

Here are a couple of links to 'Distict 13' the French film I referred to in my earlier thread. It's very entertaining and starts with some brilliant free-running(Parkour)! If the first ten minutes doesn't grab you...................I'd be surprised.

What a thoroughly depressing and sad, yet absorbing, look at the criminal underbelly of Naples. There were apparently five stories woven into this film.................................I found it a little tricky separating them out at times, but that didn't spoil it for me.
The film is based around Scampia, a high-rise residential part of Naples.
The facts shown, just before the credits rolled, were shocking.

Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice was fabulous.
The photography was superb. It was lovely to see the young bears emerge from the snow, but I found the constant 'danger around every corner' narration, from David Tennant, with accompanying scary music................................a tad stressful.
Check out the photos here.
It's being repeated on Sunday 9th January at 3.30pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã1.

Just found this thread - didn't really feel at home in the green room.
I enjoyed the new Upstairs Downstairs.........................except for the colour of the hall!!Â
Yes, I agree. Where do you stand on the Downton vs Upstairs debate? Personally I was happy to enjoy both, though thought Upstairs was trying to pack too much in, especially in the final episode. I did have a slight niggle that both represented the Edwardians as frightfully nice - everyone knowing his or her place and being happy with it. Apart from Persey of course, who presumably was modelled on Unity Mitford.
I haven't found any viewer reviews of Dr Who (apart from DS which is a little cultish for my taste). I thought it was all right, not great - got a bit bobored with all the flying fish though was quite impressed with Katherine Jenkins.

Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice is one stacked up for later but I have seen this
The cameras used for a documentary on polar bears were designed to be as unobtrusive and resilient as possible. But while they were built to withstand temperatures as low as -40C, in the end most could not cope with the curiosity displayed by their subjects.

In reply to goodhelenstar: There was/is a Dr Who thread
I rather liked it of course it was rubbish no different from past seasonal offerings this Dr W was one of those wonderfully bad Christmas specials that because of their cliché ridden, festive message overloaded, happy ending despite tragic loss for the greater good awfulness are destined for iconic cult status.

Same here goodhelen, I just wanted to talk about telly really, not flu symptons and gutters!
On the whole I preferred the original series, where the upstairs and the downstairs were more separate. Hudson ran a tight ship, but this new lot seemed to get away with murder. I guess the times, they were a-changin'.

Toast!!! Wasn't it brilliant.
The actor who played the young Nigel was a total star. The rest of the cast were superb, especially Helena Bonham-Carter.
Ten out of ten for the props department!

Did anyone see wallander the other night? For some reason I found it quite upsetting. And to upset things even more, I find I much prefer the Lassgard films. There, I've said it.
Dare I ask when the next Brannagh series is on? God help us...

There's two more coming up of the Lassgard variety.

Happy New Year one an all.

I don't know anything about Zen at all. I'll probably tape it.
Have to say I am looking forward to a few things...Bruce Parry's Arctic, Frozen Planet and Human Planet. Yay

best thing i have seen was the polar bears. much better than the soaps and recycled stuff they keep putting on. Toast was a bit interesting and Eric and Ernie wth Victoria Wood last night good too.

Thanks for both of those links madaunt, the two wallander eps you mentioned are actually just a repeat of one. But my stupid dvd disk got wiped so I'm glad of a repeat. I did lose the one from the week before. Grr.
Definitely looking forward to Bruce Parry later!

About Zen...........................I'd just like to say
PHWOAR!!!

I completely agree re Zen

I thought it started a little slowly but became really enthralling and I can't wait for the next episode. Not sure about the story line but I thought it was jolly good entertainment. A pleasant change from the Christmas offerings.

Hello Denadar.......................the more, the merrier. I'm a refugee from the POV board, so just a tourist here myself.
I didn't really enjoy the bit in the cave when he got a bit stuck.................not my idea of fun, caving!

Hi madauntydawn,
I completely agree, I found that scene absolutely horrific, it made me feel claustrophobic just watching it. Not my idea of fun either, I can't understand the pleasure/excitement cavers evidently find. I'd just panic.
