I know there are plenty of pregnancy messageboards out there, but I find some of them a bit overwhelming. I thought it would be nice if there was a little group in here to chat about developments, worries, ante-natal classes, anything really. Would anyone else be interested?

Claribel (16 weeks and 3 days, if anyone wants to know!)

It's ancient history for me these days (and I think all the rules about what you eat and drink and so on have changed several times in the intervening years) so I think my only contribution to this thread will be to say congratulations Claribel.

Thanks, Fee! The rules on what to eat and drink are bewildering indeed and seem to change every 5 minutes.

    Congratulations, Claribel.

I agree with Fee - last year I was mentoring a pregnant young woman and so many things were different from my last pregnancy 2 decades earlier. Common sense is still an important factor though.

However, that doesn't mean that us older mums have nothiung to contribute.

I recommend that you carry on swimming for as long as possible. In the last few weeks the pool will be the only place you can move with any degree of grace. It reminds you of what life used to be like! In ante-natal swimming classes - also a very good thing - we were taught to float. Wonderful: using a variety of small buoyancy aids, such as rings on the ankles and wrists, I could just lie on the water relaxing for several minutes.

    Hello Claribel,

As with Fee and Dunlurkin, my baby days are long over. So congratulations, I hope you're well. I would second the swimming advice. Try to relax and enjoy the journey you've just begun it was the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me. As for tips, mine would be to massage your perineum(sp?) daily with olive/vitamin B oil in an effort to avoid stitches.

    The very best of luck,
    Liz
