Festive is the theme for this month. There wasn't a poll, but general consensus seemed to be that it was a good idea.
Here's the link to last months thread:

Sorry to say that 'Festive' has been hard to find, so far. Apart from a Christmas cactus that peaked in October, I haven't got much to hand.
Here's a heavenly choir:

Thanks everyone, for the photos.
Gwen, what's the story behind the tree festival?

It started as an experiment last year and has grown this year. It is on Friday - Sunday. Various local organisations and businesses were asked to "sponsor" trees. They pay for the spot and decorate their own. (e.g. the poppy tree was put up by the British Legion.) We charge admission - this includes coffee and mince pie in the church hall. School groups come in during the day to perform (this brings in the parents!) There was a concert on Friday evening and a Carol Service this evening. Proceeds are split between the church and a local charity. It has proved to be very popular indeed.
Well, you did ask!

Went to the tree dressing at Weald & Downland Museum this afternoon. Kids make lanterns then process round the grounds and hang the lanterns in the tree:
Then everybody holds hands and dances round the tree to a mummer's band. It gets a bit hectic:

This is our Nativity window - designed by John Petts. It was installed when Halley's comet last appeared. I love the way that the comet's tail forms the swaddling clothes.

Snorkworthy, but I think that the continuity people managed to make sure the penguins and bears weren't in the same shot...
Loved the christmas tree festival pics.
I'll have to dig out some old pictures or get round things differently - I've just discovered that an 8G memory card is too big for my compact as its exceeded the number of pictures that its cpu can get its head around...

What a wonderful window, Gwen, so vibrant - unusual to see so much red.
Reminded me that I have this one, somewhat hampered by church architecture:

Those are excellent, lovely atmosphere, thanks FAB, for taking the trouble.
Lovely festive pics, everyone.
I took these this evening. My wallpaper's not yellow and the dog's not dead. All the pictures were disappointingly yellowish so I tried a bit of black and white in the second one.

Can one have too many Santas? :- )
It looks very cosy, even if it is a bit yellow. I tried to fix the colour, but couldn't get anything sensible out of it. What colour *is* the wallpaper? Are you using incandescent or energy saving light bulbs? If incandescent, try ferreting about in the camera's menu for 'white balance' and set it on 'tungsten' or 'incandescent' (remember to change it back afterwards).

I started a new thread in the Bull to ask whether people were interested in putting together a collection of photos (one per person) to wish the rest of ML a Happy Christmas. I may have made the title a bit too obscure :- (
Oh, thank you, F(A)B. Energy saving bulbs and beigeish, fawnish wallpaper. (Ugh, sounds horrible, doesn't it?) William Morris, btw. (Why do I feel I should sniff like Lynda Snell at this point?)
, in reply to message 28.
Posted by Flightless Anachronistic Bird (U6437464) on Sunday, 18th December 2011
Ah, William Morris. I don't think they have that in the white balance menu
:- )
I'm not sure what white balance you should use for energy-saving. I think you need to do a quick bit of experimentation. - I've just tried with my SLR, and the auto does the best with the other options I tried producing yellow or orange - but I was photographing a white wall.

We've done water, haven't we? Always one of my favourites though....
How about something that could be interpreted in multiple ways such as crafts, depart, deliver, lucky, doldrums, church, hairy, door, feast, giving, forgiveness, honour, reduce-reuse-recyle? This week is "holidays" - my contribution will be all the English registered cars, with roof-boots, in the Co-op car park this weekend!
I will admit to have lifted these from somewhere else I post and I do rather like the ones that can be approached from a number of directions. We only run each theme for a week but people are playing catch-up all the time and it is quite fun to see how different people approach the same challenge. Maybe others prefer the simpler approach.........

Anyone got any ideas for the January theme???Ìý
Apologies for not replying sooner. I thought it would be interesting to laook at the topics and numbers of posts made in 2011:
Jan - Landscapes 315
Feb - Water 380
March - Sky/clouds/sunrise/sunset 351
April - Birds/animals wild/domesticated/pets 187
May - Transport 133
June - Buildings/architecture 147
July - Summer 124
August - Red things 210
September - Churches 64
October - Flowers/trees 140
November - Bridges 129
December - Festive 42
Difficult to tell what drives interest, but I think that there are probably three effects - a good general theme that everyobody already has photos for, fewer other things to do (worrying about Xmas), and maybe a drop through the year (but difficult to tell with other things going on as well).
I suggested highways and byways before. Or what about windows (both literal and metaphorial - or even photographical!)?
We're missing some of our photo peeps - Scoobs, Magwitch and chp (I'm sure I've missed others). I miss them and hope they're all well, and distracted by even more enjoyable things than sharing photos. Best Wishes to all of them.

Maybe the top two could be worth a re-run with the request for no repetition? I did say that I liked water, didn't I?!
I always fail on the three months when my VAT return is due, and I also tend to give up when there are only a few days to go.......
I quite fancy highways and byways, although I don't have many "in stock" for that. I do know where to go to get them, well the byways at least. This island doesn't do highways!
