..... of their Behaviou over Festive Meals, ever go away?
(I know that the complications and consequences would make it not worthwhile. But the fantasy is powerfully attractive.)

Not really a problem that I've ever grappled with, FoM. Christmas meals for the last 20 years have pretty much been me, OH and the offspring. Anything that needs to be said gets mentioned year-round - unless you mean about NOT passing the Port the wrong way round the table, of course.

I think the problem is that when we are around family at Christmas (or other times!), the habits and tensions of childhood often reassert themselves.
For example, when one adult child comes home he or she may relax into being 'looked after' or behaving like a teenager, to the annoyance of other siblings, and if they are in a relationship their partner feels put upon (having to do twice the work looking after kids or helping the in-laws, while the guilty partner lounges on the sofa or fails to materialise from the pub) and embarrassed (does the family think I'm a complete doormat/mug?).
Another problems can be children. Different house rules, and perhaps some children getting 'better' or more presents, creating tensions at all levels.
