Following a broken hip, OH now has DVT. Is there a thread about this? If so, could someone point me in the right direction, please?
Up most of the night, so I'm not totally with it.
Oh Bolly, I am sorry to hear this. Just when he seemed to be getting over his accident too.
it's not uncommon following that sort of surgery, lots of info here
My Lovely Neighbour had a DVT after his knee replacement a couple of years ago - he was back doing my gardening within a couple of months.

Thanks, Lil. I've bookmarked that. I'm so worried about him.
Try not to worry, Bolly - the main concern with DVT is that a bit of clot sometimes breaks off and travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolus.
PE can be v serious BUT he has presumably started treatment to prevent this happening. Much bigger worry if the DVT goes undetected until the PE happens.
Is he at home or back in hospital?
He's in the hospital, awaiting a scan. They say they have to get the balance of the anticoagulants right, too. I wonder how long he'll be in there.
Bolly
Nothing practical to add, but thinking of you and OH. Hopefully hospital will get him sorted soon.
Take care x
Thanks Loobs.
Bolly, what bad news.
If he is hospital now, can you use the time that you are not having to devote to looking after him to making that easier when he comes home. I'm thinking of things like doing a lot of shopping so that the house is well-stocked, getting a stock of books in from the library or charity shop and getting ahead on some household tasks etc. I remember little candle being left at home immobile during the day for quite a while and always being desperate for tea, so a second kettle or a thermos might be handy.
I realise that you have to fit this in around visiting times etc., but getting organised now could well pay off once he's back. Apologies if you are tremendously organised already - I'm just thinking of my own situation.
Best wishes to you both,
Dunlurkin
Thanks Dunlurkin. All organised here as he was home for exactly a week and we'd got into a nice routine. Good advice, though.
Try and get some rest yourself, Bolly.
Mr Nix is being looked after and you need to take care of you so that you can take care of him when he comes home again.

Yes indeed. Meant to add that bit too.

How are things today Bolly?
I'll add to the advice to take the opportunity to get some rest yourself.
I had a DVT about 4 years ago and was in hospital for a few days while they got it sorted out. In the end they didn't discharge me with anticoagulants but I did have to wear pressure stockings for quite a while. I hope that Mr Bolly makes a good and swift recovery. Look after yourself
Bolly - only just caught this ... hope you are both OK.
We're still here and standing (sort of), thanks. I've just broken my thumbs (almost) putting those evilly tight stockings on OH's legs. There must be a knack which, no doubt, I'll get in time.
I'm soooo tired. If I felt 100% I'd be coping much better but everything seems a huge effort. Oh well, moaning never got anything done (apart from irritating folk) and I know we're much luckier than lots of others.
OH was hugely interested in the scan today. He said the main clot looked like a bat. (A vampire bat, presumably).
I'm having a glass of wine, now, not that I need anything to help me sleep!
Big mwah thingys Bolly.
Backatcha, Angua.
Bolly, you can get devices to help put on those stockings. I gather they make life a lot easier,Good luck to you both.

Oh, relieved to hear from you, Bolly. Onward and upward!
On the stockings - if they are the ones with a hole in the toe, it's a doddle. Put a thin, slippy, plastic freezer or shopping (tesco/snbury's) type bag on OH's foot, slide stocking on (and it will slide!), then pull out bag through the hole. Made life much much easier when a lovely nurse told OH that!
