All are welcome here, to chat about cats and all things feline, to exchange information, seek and share advice and support about all things cat related. There鈥檚 a huge range of experience here, and whatever the query, we usually manage to come up with some suggestions.

If you have a specific and urgent problem which needs a quick response, you might prefer to start your own thread: entitle it "Cat Emergency" and it will attract attention more quickly, although most of the regular visitors to this club check in on a daily basis.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please note, one of the most frequently posted pieces of advice is, 鈥楾ake your cat to the vet鈥. None of us claim to be veterinary experts, and no vet would diagnose a problem via a message board. So if you鈥檙e really worried about your cat鈥檚 health, please get him/her to your vet asap, and maybe come on here afterwards for advice and support on treatment. But if you鈥檙e not too sure whether it鈥檚 urgent or not, feel free to ask for an opinion. Most regular cat clubbers are here, dipping in and out, 24/7, so you shouldn鈥檛 have to wait long for a response.

Other ML threads you might want to visit:

    Feral/Stray Cats:

Good Food for Cats no. 1 and this one's closed:
    And no. 2:

    Pucci's Feline Diabetes:
This thread is now closed and for reference only. It is a wonderful resource for those with diabetic cats:

And another, which we frequently point people to, is Bash鈥檚 introduction protocol, a really good way of introducing a new cat into a household of existing cats 鈥 well worth a read, and it is highly recommended by those who have used it:

A link to the cat club rota for 2012, because we can always do with more volunteers to open a new thread.

And a link to a thread that's open for all animal lovers to post photos of their four-legged friends (or even stick insects if they want):

    Cats should look here:
Cats鈥 Ceilidh 鈥 a place for cats to have their own fun, without their slaves cramping their style.

Not forgetting this thread about the plants that are toxic to our
cats, But the most toxic one is all of the Lily family because
if a cat gets the lily pollen then it instinctively washes its fur
and then their organs collapse so a painful death for cats:

Finally here is a link back to the May Cat Club

These are some external sites that have been found useful:

    General

FAB (Feline Advisory Bureau) is a charity dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of cats through improved feline knowledge, to help us all care better for our cats. Also on FAB are many useful pages for cat owners, such as this list of poisonous plants and other substances.

Messybeast is a privately run site which has masses of information on anything you might want to know about cats.

. Here is a ink to the National Office of Animal Health compendium, with the data sheets for most drugs.

UK legislation on animals and Government Code of Practice on Cat Welfare:

    Nutrition

Dr. Pierson (guru on nutrition and other feline information):-

    Disease

Tanya's Feline Chronic Renal Failure Information Centre

Missing Cats 鈥 Lost and Found

Probably the largest and most publicised site.

Fair but you have to check as your info drops off the page.

A good search service but it costs

Good if you are in London.

Good as it鈥檚 a 鈥渕atey鈥 site and people help.

    Good at keeping you informed

Yes, it's summer already and i hope that the CC cats with their respecitve servants are enjoying this season as much as
    Rosalind also M & M are.
Also thinking of the recently departed cats, missing ones also
    poorlies too.

What a lovely thoughtful opening Rosalind. Yes, there have been some sad times in CC just recently.

Still thinking of Clemmie and Sweep - and hoping that Juno & Pam are both doing well wherever they've chosen to plant their little paws.

    Mwahahahahahahahaha!

    Eighteen tiny clawsies,
    Eighteen jelly-bean toes,
Two blue eyes, two shell ears,
    And the sweetest button nose!

(Oh, and those little whiffly whiskers - but I couldn't fit them into the pome...)

    G'wan, g'wan, g'wan, g'wan. Batteries in the camera charged?

Yep, saw your post in May CC - think I've got the layout now. Hmmm, screen door's not gonna help, is it? Bums.

AelM, I take it you've called your friend to tell her you'll pick him up as soon as possible? I mean Hedge really needs that kitten, doesn't he? And so, it seems, does your OH.

    Sorted.

That will also allow plenty of time for playing with - sorry, adequately socialising - new kitten.

My sourdough loaf's got a soggy bottom. I *knew* it was a mistake to try cooking it in the microwave, but I was attempting to be all fuel efficient and everything. Sigh. It rose so beautifully too. I can see I shall have to invest in a breadmaker.

Not certain that a bread maker would be better than an oven for sourdough. We do not use ours often enough (too many local bakeries) but as far as I can see with bread makers you get what you pay for. We do still use ours, most of our friends have given up.

Yes, breadmakers do tend to be one of those gadgets that end up stuffed in the back of a cupboard, don't they? Trouble is, I find it hard to justify firing up the oven for one single loaf - and I'm not nearly Domestic Godessy enough to organise baking a full-oven's worth at one go, and then bagging and freezing for later.

I just want to be able to turn out a loaf every so often, when I fancy home-baked bread and a bit of kneading therapy.

Anyway, microwave's out. My poor loaf not only has a soggy bottom, it's got a tough bit in the middle too. Might be okay with a decent micro, but this is only a cheapie affair, who's main function is warming and defrosting (which it just about copes with if you stand over it and glare). With hindsight, I was probably expecting rather too much of it.

I seem to remember there was a breadmaker thread over in The Bull a while back - might trot over there and see if I can track it down.

Not that I have any space for a breadmaker, now I come to think of it.

    Hmmm...

Giving up work sounds like a plan. Of course, with me.working silly hours at the mo, OH would get to do most of the kitten playing.

We've been failing in the search for a sensible name, so far OH wants to call him Augustus so I've said I'm going to call him Fink- Nottle.

Oh no Gil, a bread disaster? That's a pain, although I have to admit microwaving bread doesn't sound like the best idea. We've got a bread maker but I don't use it since I lost all the measuring tubs. They are great though, if you have somewhere to store them.

Ooh, Gil, sorry about the the soggy bott...I keep meaning to get a sour dough starter going...might do it this weekend.

We have a breadmaker and it is used several times a week. We pretty much don't buy bread from the shops. It takes up some space on the work top though all the time, but I have the bread making stuff strategically placed in the cupboards around it so it is not a faff to put a loaf on.

I do like to make my own dough manually too though. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's magic dough mix is fab for pizza bases.

Erm...just realised thisnis the cat thread so should update on the Libster...the lip did eventually go down and she is absloutely fine and back to her normal bumptious self, esp now the weather has cooled. Still no idea what it was, so will be whipping her back to the vet if it happens again.

AelM - v much looking forward to kitten pics. < sits back expectantly >

AelM, you know you want a kitten, go on, go and fetch it......pics wanted of course!

My lot have turned into summer cats, out most of the time, especially the ginger hooligans. Although I did have one hot night recently when the three boys all curled up against and on either side of me in bed - I'm afraid I had to move eventually before I melted.

Mum's Midge is still going strong, but at 18 I'm not sure how long that will last - fingers crossed. Going back to a discussion at the end of last month's thread, he is black and white with white ears, and he had one ear flap half removed a couple of years ago because of a growth on it, presumably caused by over-exposure to sun. My only white-faced cat is Horace, who has a white nose, but he seems to sleep in the shade and I haven't noticed any excessive redness.

stp (18), That sounds about right for the RSPCA: get someone else to do the donkey work for them. Still, if tthat organisation follows the evidence up, that'll be a good result. Good for your friend - it won't be a very happy experience for her to witness the sales of the kits.

Ooh, three little kittenses - how lovely: as others have said, they'll be wonderful company for each other!

How long do they have to stop in for until we can give in and let him out?聽

Ah-HA! Your, 'How long do *THEY* have to stop in', has been duly noted. See, in your subconscious mind you already have all three in the cat carrier, ready to make that journey home ; ) They need to be inside for at least a week to 10 days after second vacs (which is a bit young for kittenses to venture outside to my mind, but rather depends on the circumstances). With females of course, you only get a small window between that and the possibility of pregnancy - until they're spayed.

Hmmm, catflap's not looking promising, is it? Spare room, it looks like. Could perhaps fit a screen door there, if you want everyone to be able to see each other before kits are officially introduced? (and so they can see out, and won't get too bored when you're not playing wit.... um, socialising them).

What colour(s) are your other two, by the way? And are they all boys, or is there a girly to even the score a bit? < insert butter-wouldn't-melt innocent-face smiley here >

Right, off to look at video of cat and fridge...

glo, have you left George alone with your computer at any time? They don't need opposable thumbs to tap a keyboard, you know.

Oh my god - does he have access to your credit card......?

Snork, glo, who knows what these cats get up to when we're not about? Just a shame for George that he's been found out.....

Now you lot, I am not getting three kittens. Three black and white kittens. I think they're all male, but one might be female. I know the one OH wants is male. He's also the naughtiest of them all. I'm looking forward to Monday. A screen door seems like a good idea, I'll look into that this weekend. Oh, also we can't see the door at the top of the stairs while we're in the living room unless I'm at the computer, so we'll need to work something out till tiny one can go out.

Gomez and Morticia didn't go out till 6 months old, Baldrick slightly younger although he was on a lead (hahahahaha, that lasted a long time!) so I suppose another two and a half months might be about right.

The 'they" above was a generic "they ". Honest.

Oh Dear, Yes, I did leave pooter on, with sundry cards about (abandoned trying to tax cat - I mean, car - , and left cards for a later attempt). I think He is trying to Blackmail me now.. Keeps sitting where I put his food bowl and looking confident - as though Something nasty will happen if I don't provide - like a Protection Racket. Is this what is meant by "Cat's Protection Society?".

Following 3 x sibling kittens with interest. It would be nice to keep the family together, but of course it ain't always possible, and keeping three households happy must be good.

Unfortunately, Ruster, I cant seem to get any sound on my newly repaired pooter (it DID have sound before its repair), BUT.. look again - read the 2nd comment! I feel there's a story there.

Don't push AelM too hard - like I said, its nice for the feline family to be kept together, but think of AelM's purse - 3 x the food, 3 x vet bills/inoculations and so on, 3 x The Insurance. 3 x the repair of furniture and fabric....

Sorry about that, glo. That second comment - talkin about praising with faint damn.

This is a written version of the poem:

Yes, I know what you mean about the expense of three kittens vs. one or even two. Wouldn't it be nice to win the lottery, though.

Gil (32), I hadn't seen the new Simon's Cat video, and I don't remember seeing the mantlepiece one either. Where's the kitten though? (Kittens on the brain.)

Yellowcat (33), the cat on the fridge looked as if he was asking "Now, do you want me to start now?" as the "cameras rolled".

Not the routine expenses that are the problem. Its the unexpected that worries me. Three times the trouble/worry/cost of moggie going AWOL. Three times the chance of cancelling Holidays, work etc because of cat illness. Three times the Cattery fees if one gets called away/goes into hosp etc.
