My nephew is due to have a kidney transplant next week and I would like to send him a suitable gift for when he is in hospital. All I can think of at the moment is a facial water spray. My other nephew is the kidney donor so something for him too. Any ideas please? Does anybody have experience of receiving a kidney or donating? Nephew is getting very anxious about it.

Good luck to both of them. They are absolutely within their rights to feel nervous I reckon. A huge undertaking. I wish them both - and all those cheering on the sidelines - all the very best.

Might an i-tunes giftcard (or online voucher) be suitable? They can download themselves something good to listen to while confined to bed. Or an Amazon online voucher? That would mean you wouldn't need to post anything of an awkward shape (meaning someone would have to be in to receive it).

    Best wishes

It would be helpful to know their ages and how long they are likely to be in hospital. Also it might be worth finding out if the hospital has wi-fi and what entertainment is offered and if it is free or not.

Some hospitals have bed systems where you can pay for TV, internet access, etc. So a payment for that might be a good present.

What technology do they have that they may be taking with them? iPad, iPod, iPhone the iTunes voucher would be great but give it beforehand in case they don't have internet access and need to download something ahead of time. Kindle or other e-reader voucher for a download.

If they read then books or even an e-reader (kindle or something similar).

Simple care pack - earplugs, tissues, facial spray, essentials toilet kit, facecloth, small towel.

    Brand new PJs.

My nephew is 41, married with a 3 year old son. My other nephew, the donor, is 52. I don't know how long they will be in hospital, but if the donor has keyhole surgery, it will be less time for him perhaps.

I have sent my nephews an Evian water spray each and two paperback books which they might like to read in hospital, or when they come home.
Apparently the diseased kidneys are left in, so nephew will have three kidneys and the donor will have one.
