Welcome to a new week at the MFC (Mustardland Fit/Fat Club, depending on how you want to think of it). We are a group devoted to healthy eating/weight loss discussion, and are a friendly bunch, so feel free to join in.

There are really few rules, in fact about the only one is that we don't mention real life weights and sizes. The terrible "never been this big before" weight for one poster could be a goal for another, so please stick to just amount lost (in kg or pounds, inches or centimetres).

Some posters weigh daily, some weekly, monthly or never so feel free to go with what you are happy with.

Health is the goal for most, along with a desire to look better and there are as many ways of going about this as there are posters. So advice is available here if you want it. Don't be shy, there is a lovely big squishy sofa here with plenty of space to sit on.

KOKO is a long term motto of this thread -keep on keeping on- as each day may be as hard as the last but the effort is worthwhile in the end.

So welcome to friends old and new, come in and join the fun.

    Pug x

Good luck geepers. Yesterday was horrid!

I have been doing ok recently and when I have gone "over limits" it has generally been good stuff like fruit so I feel ok about that. Couple of notable exceptions usually involving alcohol but hey ho, can't be 100% good all the time!

Just did some proper exercise, first time in ages so felt a bit stiff and useless, but feel loads better now. Looking forward to getting back into routine after next few weeks are out the way as they are rather crazily busy..

    KOKO all

This morning I was Z stone 0 pounds and 2 ounces. My body sort of settled at X stone 7 lbs when I was being sensible with my carb intake and exercise, I'd like it to settle there again so about 21 pounds to go.

Hitched a lift through to Morningside this am and walked back, just in time to catch the bus to work so I'm on 8,271 steps as I type. I feel a walk down to my local shopping centre coming on, so as to get me over the magical 10K.

I have eaten no bread today (the past couple of days were pretty rubbish on that front) and restrained myself from the purchase of a Quiggins Marzipan Bar when in the newsagent just now [I have conducted very thorough research leading me to conclude that Quiggins is the finest marzipan available] so the 21lb should be, as it were, a piece of cake...

Marzipan?? Goodness I haven't had that for ages. Off for my weigh in later, so no tea for me

Blooming nervous tbh don't know why I guess it's the disappointment if I don't lose any.

The weigh in and diet are part of a process, sausages. If you have been eating a smaller amount of food and of a healthier variety then it will have an effect. The trajectory will not neccessarily be a straight line but even with occasional random blow outs it will be downward...

    Sausages good luck for tonight.

I'm going to weigh in the morning and feeling quite hopeful so hope I am not disappointed.

Lost (replying to your post on last week's thread) - you have a tendency to be a tiny bit down on yourself, you know. I've previously found your posts to be really helpful and have been impressed by what you've achieved in the past. So, crack on!

Yes, I know. Thanks for the positive comments. One thing that has always been great about this thread has been the positive tone and the way people genuinely do want to help others.

I'm feeling really poop tonight , my neck is all stiff and strange and I feel a bit "glandular" as if I'm about to get something horrid. Haven't lost my appetite though, I ate a lovely chicken casserole with butternut squash, which was very nice, but the squash tasted a bit too sweet.

Going to have a hot bath now and maybe put a wheatbag around my neck and then settle down to watch the last episode of the Paradise.

Sorry to hear that loopy, but your plan sounds like a good one. I hope you feel better in the morning..nice to see you Lost, how can we help motivate you?

Well.. The weigh in went reasonably well in that I lost 1.5 lbs this week but that really only brings me back down to the 'magic number' that I just can't seem to crack. I shall try extra extra hard this coming week. Keep up the food diary ( now on a spreadsheet at work) , reduce slightly the carbs and increase, if its possible, the veg and pulses.

So if I bore you rigid with my lists of food please feel free to ignore me : - )

Well done sausages, that is a really good loss. Particularly well done for not losing heart with your gain before, as I have allowed this to let me slip off the wagon so to speak in the past.

It is so odd that a milestone of some sort always seems so hard.

Did anyone see an article online about Joanna Lumley saying that all us overweight people only need to eat less food? Apparently her method of staying slim is to eat mainly lettuce ...

I was never that keen on Ms Lumley and this has not improved my opinion.

I suppose I need to analyse why I don't feel motivated to lose weight anymore and why everything seems such hard work. When you want to do something, you do it. The battle all starts in the mind and mine just seems not to care about anything right now. I know I ought to care. I know I like feeling slimmer and the benefits that brings. I know short-term 'yum' feelings aren't helpful in the long term. I just feel utterly apathetic about everything really and don't know why.

My son has got really into weights and exercise and diet and is doing really well and somehow I find that hasn't spurred me on; it just makes me feel even more useless!

Well done Sausages - don't reduce the carbs too much (you need the energy as you have a busy life).

Good luck for WI today Pug

Lost - nice to see you back? Any swimathons planned this winter? Okay - feel free to shoot me down here but just a suggestion. You say your son is doing really well with his diet and weights but it's not spurring you on. I know how close you two are so why not take a slightly oblique angle to yourself. View it as supporting him. He'll find it easier to stick to his healthy eating if those around him are doing the same and it's so much more fun to work out with someone (and it's quite relationship building) than to do it alone so you could work out with him to keep him company. Think of it as getting you to a place where you can have the odd yum moment without doing any damage to your figure or health. Just a thought about focusing on him to get you in the groove.....

I saw the Joanna Lumley thing. I think she was probably a bit misquoted (it was the Daily Mail after all!). I don't agree with her no exercise stuff but she is right about people saying they are overweight but continuing to eat too much of the wrong things. If we are honest with ourselves no-one ever got fat on a diet of carrots with the occasional cup cake but reverse those two and ......... I thought the lettuce thing rather lost the point they were trying to make though i think her point was that she doesn't want to exercise and being slim is more important to her than food.

Thanks all! I'm determined to lose another 1 lb this week as that will get me below the level that I have found so hard to crack. Then I will definitely celebrate.

Lost sorry you seem to be feeling down and not motivated.

.. Have you considered going to a slimming club? I am loving the support I get at Slimming World (and the support on here) . I've made new friends and we have an active and supportive Facebook page too. Good fun and losing weight, what's not to like?

    Hope you feel better soon..

Good news for me this morning, 2kg off! I am really pleased as it has made the decision to changing to this restrictive diet worth while. I am not finding it too hard either although the first few days without caffeine were a trial. I have just had a celebratory cup of tea.

I can add in fruit and some carbs now but I think I will stick to what is working largely in terms of main meals - protein with veg. The idea of the second phase is that you still avoid processed food and don't mix carbs and fat in the same meal (veg doesn't count in this respect).

    Onwards and inwards.

Lost, keep your chin up, we have all had phases like that and you know yourself unless your mind is in the right place there will not be success, but at least you are coming in here. I have avoided it in the worst times!

    Well done Sausages!

Countrypug, I'm SO pleased for you, really I am. As I said before, the Harcombe way is more or less how I eat nowadays and I'm so happy with it.

Lost, I won't add to the advice that's already here, but don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it's very hard to find the motivation, I know that, but I'm sure you can turn it around, it just takes that little spark of inspiration that can come at any time.

That's ok Loopy, thanks for pointing me in this direction! I have bought the book in kindle format so I have it on my iPad for easy reference. I found I felt fine apart from the caffeine withdrawal head. I wouldn't say I feel better, but certainly equally not worse.

I would say I am eating a bit less as it is controlling what I eat, which in my case is good. I don't feel as hungry though because I am eating a lot of protein. I am especially happy as the only respect in which I didn't follow it to the letter was the odd glass of wine, especially on Friday night when out for friend's birthday.

I am away this coming weekend which may be a challenge -16 of us are going to the lakes for an annual weekend in a large holiday cottage. We cater for ourselves on Friday night so mostly casserole type things which can be reheated. So that is fine. We have a cooked breakfast both days and therefore don't really have lunch, but there will be cake, home made and including a lovely lemon drizzle, so I will have to avoid that. Sat night we are off to the pub, so sensible choices will have to be made.

We will be walking both Saturday and Sunday, so that will help. The wine will not though so if I can maintain next week I will be delighted.

    Hope all others are ok.

    Evening all

I've had a good day and have stuck to The Plan. Just had a very delicious Chicken Dopiaza (I think thats what it's called from memory) with rice and a huge pile of veg. I am definitely missing having a few drinks of an evening, but I am sleeping better and then not so tired..

Have a great weekend Pug, it sounds like loads of fun.

A good day ..except.. I have under estimated the Syns in the mince I was using. The SW website description was 'healthy living extra lean' and the actual packet says 'healthy living..' No Extra lean. Grrrr this means I've been eating more fat than I should.

Apart from that its been a good day food wise.
