Lets all e mail feedback to try and save ML. It’s a long shot, but if we ALL write and say what it means to us and why we think it should be saved, it has to count for something. Write reasoned arguments – or from the heart – lets just blitz feedback. If we ALL do it….at least if we go, we go out with a bang not a whimper.

peacecandle, for every Ö÷²¥´óÐã board which has closed in the last few years, and there were a lot, there have been protests which fell on deaf ears. It is only because this message board is linked to a Ö÷²¥´óÐã programme we have survived as long as we have.

    Don't be defeatist Silver Jenny

I have contacted Feedback and encourage everyone to do so immediately if not sooner.

I am not usually defeatist, Scarlet. But looking at the way board after board was closed and refugees were herded towards TA it was only a matter of time before this board joined them. The faceless ones have new toys to play with and have a tantrum if the other kids don't like them

We can go down with all flags flying, especially if this is raised on Feedback.

I've just picked up over on DTA that there are some pushing for DTA to be saved and the others scrapped. I suppose this makes sense as after all it is linked to the programme.

However for me I post mainly here in TVA, occasionally in TB and rarely in
DTA. I'm not really a listener anymore and they would have to massively improve TA for me to start listening again.

So what I am trying to say is that if the board does get a reprieve it probably won't be this one. This is sad as I know just how much I value it, but it is going to be even more of a wrench for others.

I was even hoping to organise a meet - not much point now I suppose.

If the Ouch! boards were closed then we are unlikely to gain a reprieve for TVH and TB -but if we don't ask, then it's a certainty.

But when I first read about it, was confused by talk of disabling cookies.
    Will go and try.

    Well done JT.

I'm concerned the newspapers are only picking up the "angry archers fans discussing DTA - the social side is being missed.

Below I've copied an e mail I sent to tayler to forward to Ö÷²¥´óÐã - it might provide material for anyone concerned to contact newspapers/feedback.

I’d like you to bring this e mail to the attention of whoever makes the decisions.
I’m in a panic, but have tried to put my thinking cap on to make some reasoned points too.

For me, and I suspect for many others, it is like suddenly having a 24 hour helpline that you need very much closed down. Mental Health and no doubt services in other fields are shrinking. Support that you had weekly and on call
Has shrunk. Helplines, both NHS and voluntary, are closing.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã has a social remit, there are many R4 programmes that offer helplines at the end, yet you are closing a service that does not demand helpline time – we help each other.

We do pay for it monthly with our licence fee. I’d like the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to consider transferring some aspects of ML into another part of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã site, with the protections that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã offers through moderation, which, frankly, is a key part of the service not available in the social media generally.

As a listener to R 4, R 3 all my life, I feel outraged that we have not been consulted about the closure, given a chance to make alternative suggestions, etc.

A good deal of ML users are older – not people who use many social networking sites – they aren’t an option. I’m open about my problems – but how many people use ML who need it badly and don’t dare to speak out - all sorts of problems are brought there. It is a service used by many who are housebound. Advice is given on technical problems, all aspects of daily life – dealing with elderly relatives – children with disabilities.

Clearly some of us have the ability to set up alternative chat rooms for various issues – but that’s not the point. In ML one can read across different interest groups, and cross reference people towards somewhere in TVH or TB. Threads like the MH thread are read by many who don’t contribute. We regularly have people come in who don’t know where else to turn – we advise, comfort etc…at no cost to Ö÷²¥´óÐã helplines – I’m sure its true of cancer copers and similar.

As I said before, many complex needs are met for people who wouldn’t openly admit to isolation or health issues, not just those of us who openly discuss issues in TB or TVH. I feel that whoever made the decision to cut ML has not thought these aspects through. People browse and read when they don’t write.
Why not keep ML but open it to an increased number of people using the Ö÷²¥´óÐã having access to the benefits of ML.

I feel as if whoever made the decision have only looked at aspects such as DTA, and that is what is coming out in newspapers.

    Yours sincerely etc

Top post Pecan and well done for everything you are trying to do to save these boards.

When I read one of our number is going on 'Feedback' to plead the case of the DTA board in particular I was a little alarmed. I come into ML to mainly read and post on TVH and TB. I hope I have been able to reach out to some of you with either comforting words, continued thoughts and practical advice.

I have certainly learnt a lot in here and I believe I have become a more compassionate and tolerant person as a result. I do feel part of a little family, in which we share our ups and down. It is a real support network and I am worried for a lot of you for you for whom it is quite literally a lifeline.

In fact ML was my insurance policy. If I ever were to have a serious illness, a recurrence of depression which plagued me for years, or if I became housebound I knew that ML would be there. Now that is going and already I feel the place is fragmenting with the splitting off into other places.

I don't expect our hard heated friends in high places will see it from this perspective.

I've just e mailed Tayler to ask her to pass my e mail on to Feedback - hoping she can, and that the programme will include these aspects of ML.
I wish I were well enough to write similar to the newspapers - just hoping that others will. I need these aspects on an everyday basis!

Oh pecan well done you. I'm sure you did brilliantly. I deliberately witheld my phone number as I wouldn't have had the courage to speak for you all.

I have just been on the blog as I thought Mr Smith was supposed to be providing more info today about the closure. What do I read but a post from Mr K merely stating that it will close at 12 md on the 25th.

Gobsmacked!!! With all the fuss that is going on with the Feedback and media interest and that is all he could say.
