Where can I buy the Viola Sorbet Orange and Purple Delight plants/seeds as mentioned on Ö÷²¥´óÐã 2 Gardener's World Programme last Friday (31/10/08). Would like to copy Alys' window box.

    Hi Bertie

It may be a teeny bit late in the season to be looking for very specific autumn/winter flowering plants now - by all means have a good look round all your local garden centres and whatever other shops/nurseries or whatever exist near you and see if you can find the exact ones you want, but you may find you need to broaden your design ideas slightly and maybe even just let yourself fall in love with blues, or yellows, or purples wherever you find them!

Good luck, and let us know how you get on...

Hi Bertie and welcome to the boards. I thought Alys's window boxes were a lovely combination too. It should be quite easy to order seeds online, or you could try searching the web for suppliers of viola plug plants - or if you have a good local garden centre, why not ask if they might be able to order some in? Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Phyll

    Hi Phyll,
Thanks for your suggestions. I have googled seed companies but can't find this specific variety. I thought it would be relatively simple to find but I'm not having much luck in sourcing it. Best wishes, Bertie.

There are similar ones to look for that have the same kind of orange and black/purple faces. If you have no success, widen your search to include both violas and pansies rather than just one of them.

Though, from experience, black coloured blooms are very hard to find in anything but specialist nurseries. I've had to grow mine from cuttings or seed. Seeds I used very successfully are black beauty, which germinated really well so I had loads of strong plants as well as the expected weaker germinations to use as random filler plants, and cuttings from viola molly sanderson, which I originally found for sale in among alpines.
