I said in an earlier message (in reply to "What would people like to see on Gardeners' World?") that looking around other people's gardens was always interesting - and inspiring. this was always a part of Gardeners' World (in the times of Geoff H and Alan T,) but as soon as Monty Don took over the programme he said there would be no more of that. (I think it was part of his master plan to get rid of over half of the regular viewers - and it certainly worked). I hope it's one of the things Toby re-instates, when the new season starts - and gets the programme back to what I (and a couple of million other people) have been missing for the past few years. The NGS attracts millions of people every year - to see other people's gardens - not to keep looking at carrots and onions!

Agreed. In the olden days of Geoff H, most weeks he or Stephen Lacy would be off visiting one ouf our country's wonderful gardens and discussing special or unique bits with the head gardener or owner. That seems to have been cut down. Don't understand this, after all, there is no need for large OB units like there used to be.

hear hear happytobyfan! I'm opening my garden next year...not that I expect GW to film it or anything - but I have often been inspired by and interested in other people's gardens.

    Hi Alterego2

MD actually said, when he first took over GW, that he would he would not be showing any more large gardens as, in his opinion "viewers couldn't relate to them" (what planet was this man on !!)

congratulations mad_doris on opening your garden to the public. I love watching 'Open Gardens' which I can watch over and over. I really admire the time and effort put in by the people who open their gardens. Good luck with it.
