One of the former TV gardeners I always admired was Geoffrey Smith. I know he used to appear on Gardeners Question Time a lot. Is he still around and well?
Hi Paul. I liked him too and found his enthusiuasm for plants infectious. He must be about 80 now but, as far as I know is still alive and, I hope, enjoying a happy retirement.
I’m not exactly sure when it happened (although I think it must have been recently) I understand that dear Geoffrey Smith has had a stroke at the age of 80. He is very ill; however, he is showing some signs of improvement.
He was a very special and talented gardener of the old school who co presented Gardeners’ World along with Percy Thrower, Arthur Billitt and Clay Jones.
Please include him in your thoughts & prayers
Oh what a shame, he was always one of my favourites, I shall keep him in my thoughts.
Though GS was around before my time, the warm messages here made me feel I should discover more about him.
I'm sorry to read that he's not well but I could not find anything relating to his illness on Google. However, Wikipedia has the following:
"Geoffrey Smith lives in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and his hobbies include fell-walking, photography, fly fishing and a passionate interest in all things pertaining to the countryside."
I truly wish Wikipedia is not wrong, though I fear it is.

They are quite possibly right! They are no doubt referring to past pursuits.
I discovered Geoffrey Smith's condition on another message board. The stroke happened at the beginning of December and he is still very poorly in hospital with only his close family allowed to visit. I would like to send a card and as soon as I discover where to send it, I'll let everyone know.
Same source as mine, Paul. I wish him all the best.
