For me one of the many pleasures of Gardeners' Question Time is the Chairman's description of the location, its soil, topography, rainfall etc. This is especially true if it happens to be a county that I know well, but for some unexplained reason this is sometimes omitted. For example, last week we were told that the programme came from 'West Norfolk' - that was all, just West Norfolk. BUT WHERE IN WEST NORFOLK? It's a big county, and I would liked to have been given more of a sense of setting. Am I just being a silly old gardener, or does anyone else feel the same?

I agree and I know why they do it!!
I attended a recording of GQT in St Ives last September. They recorded 2 programmes and they were broadcast at the end of Oct and early Nov.
They introduced the 1st programme as being "from St Ives Cornwall" and did the soil, weather etc.The second one was introduced vaguely as "from west Cornwall" with no mention of the extras. It was said that this would make it not seem as if the programmes had been recorded at the same time and venue..........Ö÷²¥´óÐã logic I guess smiley - winkeye

Many thanks for that revelation Little Cornflower. Well, how very sneaky of them. What on earth is wrong with being honest and straight with us listeners by starting off the second programme with something like "Our programme today comes once more from the lovely Cornish Town of St Ives, where we are again the guests of the St Ives Horticultural and Allotment Society"? Nobody who contributes to these boards or who reads them would mind in the least if a programme was in two parts. We are all grown up, and quite used to serials and sequals where the radio is concerned . Perhaps in some things the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has not yet grown up.

I went to a recording that turned into two of "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" (hilarious) a few years ago at the Barbican in London. The second was introduced as you suggested "once more from" etc. Must depend on the editorial team.
