In the past we have been treated to specials such as GH's Kitchen Garden or Paradise Gardens of AT's How to be a Gardener and so on but there is nothing this year. Dismal affair.

We do anyway Crouchee but it's good to come home and watch recorded gardening with a glass of wine in one hand and a pen and notebook in the other, not that there's been anything to note in recent GW efforts.....

Couldn't agree more, I'm lost without my Friday dose. Whilst I'm lucky enough to have cable there is only one channel there too (preferring to give too many channels to fishing and DIY and Place in Sun). Even a 30 min slot with a visit to a different garden(there are hundreds in Britain without always going to the most famous ones - maybe do a whole county's worth?) would be lovely. Open Gardens isn't on enough either. Gardeners' World isn't disappearing is it?

Yet another wasted opportunity by the Beeb (and ITV). Since my foot op, I've watched more than my fair share of daytime television and with few exceptions, it is truly dire stuff. With the exception of 'Ö÷²¥´óÐãs under the Hammer' the rest of the day is a wasteland of tripe.

Why couldn't they play re-runs of old but still valuable Gardener's World?

Couldn't agree more Paul. Was ill early part last year & there is a limit to amount of daytime tv you can watch. Luckily had old video tapes of GW & others to watch but did discover an earlier ER series which enjoyed. J.

There's plenty of gardening on UK TV Gardening if you have cable or sky - chanel 267 on Virgin Media - dont know the number on sky - GW is usually on at about 10pm.

I am thinking of getting Sky, for the lifestyle output.
Are there any channels which show NEW gardening/property programmes ( as opposed to endless repeats such as there were when Freeview had UKTV Bright Ideas)
I love all property and garden programmes but get fed up if they are repeated too often smiley - smiley

During the "season" I watch The Beechgrove Garden on iplayer. It's from Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland and is FAR better than GW. Isn't always on tho, and it doesn't start till April.

No cable or Sky television, I'm afraid. Just terrestial plus a digibox. Last week we bought a brand spanking new wall-mounted 32" tv plus recorder, but needed THREE hours of explanation by the fitters as to how the damned thing works. Making a recording takes about a dozen steps, unless I hesitate then it's back to square one. Lovely screen and picture by - oh - how my head hurts. I'm too old for all of this.

And as for the mobile phone..........and the computer...........I was born twenty years too late.

know how you feel Paul N... still havent figured out the video recorder and its 3 years now .. lost the instructions when we redecorated so no hope.
No cable or sky I am afraid just the basics, but it seems to me that all gardeing doesnt just stop come Nov/December there are always jobs to do and also reminders about whats coming up or reruns that could be put out. I suppose no matter what they did though it wouldnt please everyone... ah well
at least looks like its going to be sunny or not so wet this weekend so some gardening may get done !

Hello Deepmire. Have you tried googling your video recorder make and model number. Quite often you can download instructions from the manufacturer's website.

I think the 2 million or so GW watchers and gardeners should be able to count on 8pm on Friday night as our gardening spot, year in, year out. Now would be the perfect time of year for specials on planning for the year ahead, for instance.

    - Creating veg gardens
    - Redesigning borders
    - Seed choosing and buying
    - results and feedback of trials from previous years.
    - Creating new garden structures for height/climbers
    - Getting composting bins going

Even if it's too cold/wet to do it, it's the perfect time to make plans and get ahead of the curve.

Instead of that we get programmes on tigers - so not even UK based wildlife programmes.

All I want is one hour per week, on Ö÷²¥´óÐã2. That's all. Please. Please a lot.

You really wouldn't think it was asking too much. Other 'boarders' have already mentioned that there could be appropriate repeats shown, perhaps concentrating on the winter activities. It just seems incredible that no-one seems to appreciate that right now so many of us are planning our garden layouts for the coming year, and thumbing through catalogues for appropriate seeds/plants. There could be a sound argument made for this being the most important time of the year for garden planning. I accept that regular presenters must get a break, but this would be the ideal time for some quiet talking by an experienced and respected gardener - with no need for hand-flapping or associated amateur dramatics.

Most garden experts agree that autumn is the best time to introduce new plants so they get established over winter so what does the Beeb/GW do? It shuts down.

We also know that winter is the time for repairing and building structures whilst plants are dormant and we are also busy planning new schemes and modifications plus ordering seeds and so on. Why, therefore, does the Beeb/GW completely ignore this time of year when we want advice and inspiration for all levels of gardeners from complete novice to the most experienced?

Hi all,I've been busy like you all sofa gardening. I now have plans done, seeds ordered etc and a big prayer for a decent summer. I agree that you don't get anywhere if you don't try so why don't we all bombard Ö÷²¥´óÐã with complaints so they have to take notice and give us some garden programmes in the season that we're currently in!It would certainly be helpful for people who have got a new plot/garden to plan from the very basic start off imformation to people with a bit more experience who are ready for more advise.

Havn't been on these boards for a while and when I come back - what do I find? Same old, same old. How sad that the Beeb STILL takes no notice of us. I so agree that this time of year we need programmes to stimulate us for the new season ahead. And I'm sure we could all do with some hints/tips/reassurance etc. on how to cope with the weather and whether or not to panic!!

So if anyone from the Beeb is looking (hah!) I would like to formally complain about the lack of gardening programmes at present.

If I get no response I may be forced to say a Carole Thatcher word to get their attention!!
