I would appreciate some advice on my poor old agapanthus. I bought what looked like a beheaded bag of leeks in Madiera two years ago and potted them up and have had a lovely flourish of green leaves and just one flower head which I tragically snapped off when watering last summer! I hope to be more successful this year. However, my problem now is that the recent arctic weather has turned all my leaves wet and sloppy and it all looks very sad. Do I chop them all back again?
Good grief. Here we go again. I would respectfully suggest you ask this question in 'Garden clinic' as this section is concerned with (you've guessed it) 'Gardening on TV'.

I am sorry, I am new to the messageboards. Realised my mistake immediately and posted it to Garden Clinic too. Must try harder.
That was a bit rough of you PaulN. We don`t really need the sarcasm...Bob
Hi Gardeninglynda
Welcome to the message boards. If I’d had the reply you got to your first message, I think it would have put me off bothering with it anymore – so glad it didn’t. Paul must have mis-laid his happy pills that day. All the stuff on here now about the political prog – Question Time and God’s appearance on there must have you scratching your head about what is and what isn’t 'Gardening'.
well - to cheer you up lynda - your title was wonderful!
and intriguing!
i wish i could help with the query itself.Somebody will know what to do
Happytoby, that's the way conversations go in real life you know.
I'm off to suggest we close it anyway
Lynda in fact did ask about her Agapanthus in Garden Clinic where her questions were duly answered.

Hi happytobyfan Thank you for your kind reply. Was a bit hurt but felt abashed too by Paul's response but no fear, onwards and upwards. I'm too keen on gardening to give up! Glad to say that I too am a happy Toby fan as I've enjoyed his contributions to TV in the past (Garden Magic etc) and I am delighted he has taken on the mantle of GW and look forward to the new series. Nice to you to cheer me up!
Hi again Gardeninglynda, thanks for that. Like you, I also enjoyed watching Toby on Gardening Magic, and am now looking forward to what I think will be a much more balanced Gardeners' World, with a reduced amount of time taken up with fruit and veg.
I would appreciate some advice on my pooÂ
Rather an unfortunate abbreviation there in the thread preview
Regarding the agapanthus, it would appear you bought the evergreen variety — which isn't hardy! They should be undercover in the winter. I bring in my deciduous agapanthus (which can tolerate frosts) as they're in pots and more exposed than if they're in the ground. Cut the leaves back, but I'd have thought the plant has died although it's worth waiting to see if it revives.

Yes I was amused and slightly embarassed by the abbreviation to my thread preview, what with posting to the wrong site initially I've had an inauspicious start to my contributions to the messageboards! However, thanks for your response and I have taken a close look at my plants and there are very small but strong new shoots poking through the slimy leaves so I am fairly hopeful! Next winter though I think they will be moved indoors to a cool frost free place.
