Can anyone tell me when is the right time to start cut my lawn as it is looking very untidy.
Jackie from Essex
Last Monday! (sorry!) that's when OH did ours, and the rest of the village has followed suit. Our name is mud
amongst the neighbours!
Did ours last Sunday!
As soon as it looks as though it needs it but not when the soil underneath is waterlogged or frozen.
Is this a new TV programme on gardening?
That's rather cutting, Paul N. Get it? Cutting? Oh nevermind...
I try to 'top' my lawn every six weeks through the winter months. Nothing fancy, just a bog standard Flymo on the highest setting.
The worst thing you can do is take it down from 6-8 inches to 1-2 inches in one foul swoop.
The golden rule is never remove anymore than a third of the leaf in any single session.
Also remember that left to it's own devices, a grass plant would grow to over 12 inches. Yet, we cut our lawns to 1-2 inches and still expect them to look green and perfect.
The truth is that a 'lawn' is a very un-natural environment for grass, so you've got to help it with a bit of T.L.C
i cut my nan's lawns on monday but not risking ours as ours are more damp then hers was
dd
Good question only problem is I have not stopped.
Times between cuts have varied and up to four weeks over Xmas but otherwise normally just over two weeks as weather allowed. Whenever cut the rotary mower has been on highest cut and collected clippings & does a very effective tidying up job..

We mowed our lawns today, having to stop on a reglar basis to clear the build up of grass away from the blade.
I have to admit that the grass does not get a cut during the winter

lawn? you mean you don't have decking?
seriously cut it when it looks like it needs it. every year is different.
Best time to cut it is between 8pm and 9pm on a Friday night
But you will be missing GW if you do it then!!!
