What was the name of the garden tool Joe Swift was discussing with Carol Klein on GW 3/4/09. Looked a very unusual spade/hoe tool, did not hear the name. Would like to try and buy one somewhere.
I've got something similar called a mattock, but that wasn't what he called his...
We called them back hoes and used them for weeding between rows of growing vegetables.
The one I used had a narrow spade on one side and wider spade on the other so if the rows were narrow you just turned it oved and carried on hoeing.
Frank.
It was called an Azada I believe. Try googling it.
Reading the post it sounded a bit harsh, sorry it wasn't ment to be.
azada or chillington style hoe
although these are good I prefer Chillington ones, much better made in my opinion.
I am a recent convert to them, great for ground full of roots and breaking down heavy clods
this is where I got mine from, I haven't really seen them anywhere else.
