I thought she may have been left behind at Berryfields. At least she brings a touch of normality to the programme.

Touch of normality.... how?

I'm glad they kept her too. I only saw a few mins of last week's programme...

I'm with you Malan D, someone describe "normal"
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
If "normal" is gardening in clean clothes, I'm happy to be my usual messy soil stained abnormal self!
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
A feel genuinely sorry for "young" Alys with her fleur de lys vello (that's a 1940's retro bike) and a useless short mutt (that's a doggie).
Poor girl having to work in Birmingham!!!!!
Why didn't the Ö÷²¥´óÐã provide her with a sooped up uninsured 1997 Suzuki Impreza and a bull mastiff to fit in with the locals?

Hi Harry Tweed
I as just about to give quite a curt repsonse to your message till I re read it and realised you are a former resident so your comments must be 'tongue in cheek'.
I have been born and bred in Brum and won't hear a bad word against it.
I take it you no longer live in the vicinity. You should visit this great city and see all the changes there have been over the past few years.
BTW I reaslly enjoyed the programme.

I'm pleased too.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I wish she had been left behind, along with all the others! I don't particularly like any of the current presenters and I've given up watching altogether now.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
She's one of the best thing's on GW. Alys and Carol should have been allowed to front the show.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I don't like Alys being on the show as I don't think she has anything to offer.
However, she lives locally so I suppose at least they save on her expenses
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I have in the past found her to be an intelligent and inspiring individual. She is at the moment unfortunatley appearing on a show directed and produced by mummpets, and it really isn't doing her any favours

Alys brings a charming touch of magic to gardening. Professor Alys from Hogworts. I too have a loyal terrier to help me in my garden.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
No doubting Alys's knowledge and she seems a very nice lady. But by normal do you mean everyday? Shes certainly not like anyone I've ever met!
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I am sorry SP but I have to disgree about Alys. She does absolutely nothing for the programme. She may have gardening qualifications but what she lacks is gardening experience and practical knowledge. She also has poor presentational skills.
She is the muppet and is being supported by the other members of the team. The sooner she is consigned to the compost heap the better.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
First being cack handed with a hammer on a pallet compost bin, now doing odd things with a grow bag in an equally inept manner!
I don't mind Alys doing this as we all muck about in our gardens but why did the editors keep this stuff in the programme?
It neither entertains the experienced nor informs the newbies. That sounds rather pompous so perhaps I'll just say it's not big and it's not clever.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
If you don't like someone it doesn't make them inexperience. That said, I do find some of their efforts strange. But they are trying to aim at a broad range of viewers and lets be fair, many peoples first attempt at growing veg will be with a grow bag in an attempt very much like Alys. Accept that not all of the one hour prog will suit everyone. I sky plus mine and fast forward anything I'm not keen on.

EEEEK! That would be torture!
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
Alys seems to be adopting the same mannerisms as Nigella, winking at camera and batting her eyelids.
Commendable.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
Yes, but she lacks the sex appeal that Nigella has by the truckload.

Though I find them less annoying than the two males ( well metromales ) I think that the order should have been new garden - new presenters but the producers obviously weren't up to that challenge.
Alys is competant in the role she is in and adquate for the average viewer but I find quite a lot of ginger subversiveness under her otherwise girl-next-door personna. That undercurrent to me seems sort of pent-up and brooding, everytime the camera stops jumping around and fixes her for more than ten seconds I seem to see her saying - yes, o.k. I'm not a redhead, I'm not auburn - I'm not a Rachel - I'm ginger and proud ( really I'm not and would rather I looked a whole lot better but if you don't like it bu**er off and see if I care. )

I'm really not sure I understand what point you are trying to make here about Alys. Are you saying you don't like her becasue you have a problem with ginger haired people?
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
Some quite childish comments really. She's not my sort of presenter but I'm sure many like her. As to hair colour....making comments about that, I'm guessing someone needs to get back to school

What‘s hot: Carol Klein and Joe Swift: What's not: Alys Fowler and Toby Buckland. The pointless chit chat between those two in the garden shed this week was toe curlingly awful. The interview with that wonderfully enthusiastic grower of old fashioned rose varieties was brilliant. Please lose Alys and Toby and offer the rose growing genuis a presenting job with Carol and Joe.

Joe is hot?
You'll be telling me green is 'in' next!

Not at all. I don't have "a problem" with her being ginger or skybluepink for that matter - (read my post again - I said I felt that it was HER problem ) I was merely trying to illuminate a dark corner which perhaps I could have done better and chosen another theme as I do feel that Alys always appears slightly miffed.
This week she showed us her economy pots made from tins ( I could feel the Health & Safety folk wincing as she pushed the freshly cut bottom in with her fingers ! ) however, I had the impression that someone had just said - that's a rubbish idea - just before it was taped.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I cannot believe you lot!!!!!! I was merely supporting Alys and congratulating her on her promotion from 'back room girl' to her new position as one of the four major presenters on GW. A huge leap in my mind. So what if she has red hair and is a little quirky in her dress and her outlook? She has done really well to get where she is and is a huge asset to that programme. I thought you gardeners were a more gentle breed and not into such griping and moaning. Give the girl a chance and applaud her individuality and personal achievement as she truly deserves it.

Here, Here, Susimow, I quite agree with your comments. In fact I have just read an article in a weekly gardening magazine on her, perhaps others on this forum should read it and then perhaps they will get a better incite into her background. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between all the presenters and I have been gardening for years.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
ultimately some people will love someone and others will dislike them. I think the team is well balanced. I personally wouldn't rush to listen the Alys but I certainly wouldn't dare to comment on his personal thoughts on her hair etc etc I think GW is on the right tracks. They will always get praise and critism but the fact everyone who has commented has watched the programme shows they are doing something right.

Alys can come and do my garden anytime - as for nigella well ....can't see her playing with her dibber in a potting shed........
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I agree the recycle a can idea did seem a bit naff but perhaps next weeks light box will be more interesting.
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I like Alys and her dog. Much better than the cat which used to wander around Alan Titchmarsh's garden!
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
I take great HumberBridge at the above comment.
Alan's cats created at least 2 hours 23 minutes of classic gardening television each series.
He created "twiggy pea sticks" to keep them off his peas.
Not to be perturbed he then created "twiggy pea sticks" to keep them off his hardy sown annuals sown in situ.
Then (stay with me) more "twiggy pea sticks" to keep them off his upcoming gladiolus.
Oh! And a thousand and one more uses for "twiggy pea sticks" that I can't think off just at the mo.
If only the Ö÷²¥´óÐã had cottoned on commercially to that book that shouts the virtues of "twiggy pea sticks" in the same way as those books "100 uses for Vinegar" and "101 uses for Vinegar before I die" none of us would have to pay the licence fee again!
I ask you! What has Alys's mutt done for World advancement that Alan's cats didn't?
A highly and mightily miffed...
Harry

Harry,
are you having a DogDayAfternoon?
???

Help - I'm desperately trying to find the link between Alys, twiggy pea sticks and Al Pacino. Aren't we getting away from the point slightly?
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
What point is there to GW in its current format and content?
Link to this forum: So pleased they kept Alys on Gardeners World!
Sometimes you just have to have a Zen moment and go with the flow.
When I've finished being Zen-like, I'm going to start an argument about whether presenters' cats or dogs are better.
Oh well, carpe diem and all that
Which do you all prefer?

Cats or dogs? Oh most definitely cats!

Always cats
They have to be cats of distinction though...

Thankyou all for being so sensible.
I believe the Saint Monty of Beforehand is gracious enough to have both cats and dogs in his own garden.
Remenber we are talking about presenters 'animals, or we will get off topic.
Lovely Alys once came on here to talk to us about her dog, you know!
More animals on GW!!!!!!!

Sensible???? Who's being sensible? Surely, that's not allowed - is it?

So nice to see the cats on tonights GW
Although I did notice that Alys' little mutt was doing the camera work for the opening sequence

Why
They should have left her with the rest of the rubbish at Berryfield
