Really disappointed with the new Gardeners World. I was hopeful when Toby said it would be budget gardening, however I don't think there are many people who could aspire to the greenhouse, shed, landscaping and building work that has been carried out, or the ready made big plants. We have created a garden from an acre field on a real budget, using real manpower, (our own muscle power and time). Its ongoing and has taken 13 years so far, but thats the fun and thats the reality! We bought a green house out of the local paper second hand for £150. It had been much loved and used by a lady in her nineties we are now the grateful and proud owners. We dismantled and erected it ourselves over many weekends. We a a veg patch which we dug out by hand. We have a pond (large) but again pure muscle power used, not machinery. We have many plants sown by seed, bought cheap at the garden centre at the end of the season. We put in all our native hedging by hand which was bought from nurseries in bulk and tiny so it was cheap and we were patient and waited for it to grow. I invite Toby to come and see our real garden, which also started as a field but was actually developed on a real persons budget, gradually and over time, not a Ö÷²¥´óÐã endless budget!!!!! Get in the REAL WORLD...it is out there....

I agree! If last week's GW had told us actually how long the creation of Greenacre had taken up to this point, how many (wo)man hours had been needed and how much it had all cost, the first programme of the new series would have been more credible and realistic. As it was, the programme seemed to imply that anybody could achieve a total transformation of a large site almost immediately without the expertise or financial clout that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã had at its disposal. I hope future programmes will be more closely rooted in the interests and limitations of gardening in the real world.

I agree .when toby said that he had used a few tons of soil improver i thought that what he actually should have said was many hundreds of tons judging by the size of the plot and the condition it started in.
