Hi everyone,
Just had a novel idea, please could we keep this thread for positive only comments about tonights G W . There will be lots of other threads where the disgruntled amongst us can have a pop at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. so please use them, and not this one.
So, here we go,loved the little girl planting up the seeds, hope she is on again to prick them out when they are ready.
Liked the idea of the white garden,
Call me crazy if you like (but not on this thread please.)but the gnome man made me laugh and was well worth the time used on the programme.
Good advice about buying from garden centres, and taking cuttings for free plants.
Overall, nice programme, I for one enjoyed it.
If you did, add to this thread, if you didn't, start your own discussion.
Happy gardening
Ellie
There were good things about the programme - I agree that gettings kids to grow things is a good idea and that little girl did seem to be keen and a nice kid.
The programme does seem more fun and natural than it was in the past.
Well said Ellie!!!
There were good things the start and the end
The muppet show in between was a fiasco
here here I enjoyed every bit surely something for Most of us
Utter and complete rubbish and the 'gnome nutter' just reinforced the fact!
I would love to learn more from Carol, she obviously has valuable experience and presents with intelligence, enthusiasm and warmth. I along with many others was so disappointed when she was not appointed as the new GW main presenter (oh no it has to be a man!) Maybe she will have more programs of her own planned? I hope so!
Joe is also a great presenter and I would like to see him doing well too.
Not giving up on GW on Friday eve with glass vino.
Dear me !!!
What happened to the being positive on this thread? It would appear that some people find it very difficult to be positive.
I enjoyed this evening's programme even the chap with the gnomes. I think that the producer or whoever is in charge of these things has got quite a good sense of humour. He has probably read these boards and thought quietly to himself. "What can we do this week to wind them up? I know. We'll give them gnomes. Let's face it some people have very funny ideas about how to keep a garden. So why shouldn't they be given their fifteen minutes of fame?
There was enough to enjoy in tonight's programme.

Rowan Cottage and David K, I kindly asked people with veiws like yours not to come on this thread. Perhaps I should spell it out more clearly.
There are people on this board who are fed up with reading nothing but moans and critisisms. These same people watch GW for the garden content and pick out bits to suit them, they realise that GW can't please all of the people all of time, they watch for the garden content and not so that they can start to complain on these boards -even before the programme has finished- about what some one is wearing, camera angles, music, etc. Most genuine gardeners don't even notice.
And as for criticising the presenters!!!
I hope the moderators delete your posts from my discussion. I made a polite request, but you obviously think that your comments are so importent that everyone should read them ,well, we on this thread don't!
It is a sad styate of affairs when Gw is so bad that a thread has to be started that demands only positives. The point of a discussion board or forum is for discussion not for a blinkered view where people cannot voice their opinions. It is the 'genuine' gardeners that do notice the the silly camera angles and liufestyle features because it is a cover up for the dreadful gardening on offer. People are not just criticising for the sake of it, many love gardening and have watched and loved Gardener's World for many years and have a right to give their opinions on each programme. If I started a negative only thread with no discussion allowed I am sure it would be deemed out of order. In such a way so is this thread.

I agree with you on that pinktequila.

And who exactly do you think you are? David Kay and Rowan Cottage have been posting on this board for at least 3 or 4 years. If you don't like reading different opinions to your own, kindly go off and find a GW fan club board or do your own blog and be your own moderator — bet it'll be really popular (not).

Criticism where criticism is due
And it was due in bucket loads this week
Also if you put up a thread expect people to post on it (its a DISCUSSION board) especially when it is not the official thread for this weeks program
Mod me I really don't care as that is the last resort of people who are unable to form a reasoned argument. OOH he threw stones at me and has a different 'veiw' from mine
PS you will also note that I did not post till after the 'show'
Good to see you back TallyHo
I agree pinktequila , messages are open to all opinions and all posts should be open to all .
Thanks Bluedoyenne...
Monty must be laughing his socks off.
You can't please everyone all the of the time, it seems you can't even please some people some of the time, but please sometimes keep it positive as requested. GW is fun at last and the muppet show wasn't all that great really !
You know TallyHo, I have been thinking the same thing since the programme ended. But seriously, I hope he wasn't watching as I feel he'd be pretty sad at how low things have sunk since his untimely departure. I also feel sad for Alys as she's capable I'm sure of serious work and merits better than this circus. The only saving grace is CK who at least has the advantage of being distanced from it geographically. And very wisely too, IMHO.
Rowan Cottage,
I didn't mean to offend, I just find it strange that people who class themselves as gardeners feel that is important to critisize what people are wearing, does it matter? What is to discuss about a presenter wearing contact lenses, or funny shoes, or waving their hands about. It's a gardening message board not a personality contest. I just wanted to create a thread that was pleasant to read for once without all the sniping and bad feeling. Looks like I've failed doesn't it.
sorry, Ellie
Rather glumly watched the first two shows, and absolutely loved the first 56 minutes of tonight's show! My seven year old daughter can't wait to get sowing tomorrow, and we'll both be watching for 56 minutes next week too.
I'm positive!
Ellie, if there is one thing anyone can call me, it's 'serious gardener', so please don't try to undermine this discussion by implying that those who criticise are not so. That is not the case - quite the opposite in fact.
Also - your argument regarding presenters' clothing, etc. is clearly far off the mark as not one poster tonight has made such a comment. The only comments have been about substance, or rather the lack of it.
Ellieho
If you read my posts you will see that I never ever comment on what a presenter is wearing, etc.
I am very critical of only one presenter and that is due to a very specific reason and its nothing to do with how they dress, how they talk etc.
What I do worry about is the poor horticultural guidance they give. (the Auricula advice tonight was very poor)
I just want a balanced program and the wish list has been written on here by a lot of regular posters for the past couple of years(to no avail)
I don't like veg growing but accept that it is part of the program.(as long as it is not 100% of the program)
I am sorry if I did not react well to your post but tonight's program did not meet even my most basic expectations and its a very low bar and getting lower as the weeks go by, but I live in hope
I deliberately post on this thread because I objected to the title.
For the record, I've contributed to these boards for the past 8 years.
That is why I posted on it as well!
I loved last night's program. It is a magazine format now, not a step-by-step how to garden. It was inspiring, full of little bits of useful info, and thoroughly enjoyable.
If you want more in-depth info then look in a book - that's what I and all the 'serious" gardeners that I know do.
If you don't like the program then switch off.
The moaners here are in the vast minority, as always with forums - it's generally only those with problems that post. The reason that the team appear to be ignoring all of your gripes is that you don't represent most of the viewers, and they know that.
To be honest, I think that you are a sad old bunch.
Best wishes, Philip.
I loved it - apart from the gnomws
Maybe we are a sad old bunch, or maybe we are a bunch of very good gardener's some of whom have been watching since Percy Thrower. My father has been watching every friday since Gardening club with Percy Thrower, last night he said he is never watching again. I am not asking for a return to the old days, everything moves on but the gardening in the programme is on the whole atrocious and badly done. So most of the viewers are happy? Jolly good. Unfortunately viewing figures have gone down drastically haven't they? There is no skill in producing a programme that everyone who watches is happy hen only a handful are watching it. Gardener's World should be more up to date than a book with weekly gardening news and new techniques and a reminder of what to do each week. I feel it is the people who are enjoying it that are the sad old bunch or the too easy to please bunch.
Well - you're entitled to your opinion
Pinktequilla - I'm with you!
I've been watching since the days of Percy Thrower too (albeit I was a very young boy then) I've also got 60 years gardening experience behind me...so I reckon it has to count for something when I say, today's format is total rubbish!
I thought I would add my pennyworth as a keen amateur gardener. It was hoped that this was to be a positive discussion but obviously some parts if not all have not come up to some people standards.
Positive - I like Toby's style, his informality and his effort to keep things practical. As they are working on a new site there is naturally a lot of preparation to do. I am hoping that as they move to setting up beds things will be more practical for the experienced gardener, that we will have plant names on the screen and the programme will be more balanced.
Jo was good tonight and I look forward to Carol's school as it gets down to real work. For those with little experience Alys's light box was helpful because those who have tried to grow plants on a window sill know how leggy they get.
Negative - no I didn't like the gnome section. And as I've said before on this forum can we have some more detail on items rather than skimping over things and, again as I've said before can we scrap the sofa it adds nothing to the programme or our gardening knowledge.

I can't wait for Carol's class, I hope that it won't be crammed into 3 mins per episode sandwiched between silly bits of 'acting' between Toby and Alys. I think the bbc is trying to satisfy everyone which is very hard to do!
