Beechgrove

  Being down here in southern parts, I have to watch Beechgrove on iPlayer. Watching episode 4 - the first one - what a difference to GW! Beechgrove is much better. It was giving clear instructions - whys, hows, wheres.. and the bit about creating a veg patch in a family garden - done much, much, much better than GW's attempt in Sara Cox's lawn.. On Beechgrove it was clearly explained - testing the soil, doing some double digging - explaining why & how.. then keeping the initial interest going by starting off some potatoes in conatiners.. As a beginner veg grower it *informed* without pitching at the level of assuming the viewer is a small child. It encouraged.. it did not do this: patronise! There was fun and banter without detracting from the nitty-gritty of gardening.
  
  I shall be watching Beechgrove with more interest! More Beechgrove please Ö÷²¥´óÐã!

  Beechgrove is better because Beechgrove is honest!
  
  Beechgrove didn't give us the 'lawn converted in a blink of an eye into instant perfect deep veg-growing loam' guff as GW did on Friday at Sara Cox's garden. They showed how to do it and the novice said it was very hard work with a shot of two large blokes double-digging out the beds in the background. Meanwhile the presenter explained why this initial work was worthwhile.
  
  They also showed their failures from the winter, with advice on how to tell if a plant is a gonner. GW pretends everything is lovely (but only if you can throw money at it — rather like the economy atm). Time they got real.

  We LOVE Beechgrove and now have it on our series link. They are so down to earth and as you say not afraid to show the failures which for most of us is real life after all.
  
  I can't wait to see Jim and his 'boozy border'.
  
  I will always love GW but Beechgrove is turning out to be my favourite 30 mins of the week.

  Wafflycat - try finding Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland on Sky and you can watch it with the rest of us haggis-munchers on a Wednesday evening.
