Have things changed so much?

  This is a genuine query. I was reading Amateur Gardening magazine, which is celebrating some anniversary.They were listing past contributers and mentioned that one of them was "the gardener who did the work for Geoff hamilton at Barnsdale" I paraphrase, but that was the gist.Now, we all know that GH, AT et al did not do ALL their own gardening, but somehow, it being their garden seemed to give them more clout - or - is that just a perception, and have things really always been as they are now with others doing the graft and the presenter just doing the fancy bit to camera?
