Quite rightly Gardener's World has been under the hammer for some time throughout these message boards.

Isn't it time that someone from the Production Company (and I assume that saima_razzaq and Phyll-ostachys are the Production Company personified) came out in the open and told us what on earth it was they were trying to achieve in this series.

It would be nice to be told what they consider to have been successful and even nicer to be told what they consider to have been a total abject failure.

Or are they not man(or woman) enough to do it?

If you have a grievance you could always make a complaint / comment directly to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. There is a facility to do this via the main Ö÷²¥´óÐã web site.
Thats assuming you are man (or woman) enough to do it !

I don't have a grievance, I do have a point of view, and I don't like corresponding with unrepresentative monoliths (aka the Ö÷²¥´óÐã).

In my view the 'fault' for the inferior quality of the programme lies with the Production Company. They are the ones who have made some stunningly bad decisions resulting in some stunningly bad programmes. It seems to me to be very "British" to offer them an opportunity to put their point of view.

If you are asking somebody to respond regardless of who they work for (the Ö÷²¥´óÐã or the production company)Then I`m pretty sure you have a grievance.
If your not prepared to tell the Ö÷²¥´óÐã (who have ultimate reponsibility for programme content) then whats the point of asking a board moderator to come on here and explain themselves (and then finish off by suggesting that they are too cowardly to do it)

    Laughable really !

I haven't asked anyone to respond "regardless of who they work for". I have made an assumption, rightly or wrongly, that those whose ID's I quoted were members of the Production Company. If they are the offers still open, if they are not then move on if no-one else, in the name of the Production Company, takes up the running.

Personally I gave up years ago expecting the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to listen to views expressed by those who pay the fiddler.

In any case PJ what's your roll in this tragedy?

I just wish we could have a regular gardening programme that merely celebrates the joy and fun of gardening with no 'how to' agenda.

I've gardened for forty years and will grit my teeth every time I am shown yet again how to plant a seed in a drill or seedtray, yet I do understand that everyone is a novice to begin with and needs to know such skills.

Does Top Gear feel constrained to have a regular 'how to be a better driver' item?

Can you imagine Jeremy Clarkson saying "this week we are going to show you how to change gear more smoothly"? Yawn.

How come they occupy the same 8 till 9 slot and yet be allowed to be considerably more relaxed/rude/irreverant/bonkers than ever GW can be? (lets leave aside opinions on who hates/likes JC and Top Gear?)

Poor Gardeners' World has the impossible task of teaching novices while informing the experienced, in a way that should entertain everyone, and more often than is recognised, has been known to achieve this.

Please can we now have two half hour gardening programmes, one purely 'how to' and one just to entertain?

    Dear Allionii,
I totally agree with you, but in my (albeit limited) experience, asking the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to admit they were wrong is like asking a politician to admit to error. For the past six months I and literally scores of others have been complaining to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã about the butchering and ultimate axing of a much loved long running Radio 2 programme. The result? Just a brush-off and the implication that Aunty knows best. We may pay the licence fee, but it seems that we can't call the tune.

Allionii, the two people who's name you quote have nothing to do with Gardener's World. They are either host or mod of this message board. If you have a grievance with Gardener's World check out their website.

Expressions of disillusion are becoming almost as tedious as the programme itself...I think the best course of action is not to watch.

I agree with you the programme is pretty tedious!

The thing is the less I and others bang on about it in Forums such as this the more the possibility of the Beeb, in it's infinite wisdom of course, considering that we are all deliriously happy with Gardener's World. Or, that in the absence of any other views the world and his lad is fed up with gardening programmes per see and we finish up with none at all. Let's face it the latter nearly applies now!!

Banging on via this forum may well vent your spleen but the powers that Beeb actually take mor enotice of opinions sent to Points of View or directly to the controller of the channel concerned.

Monty Don used to read this board and occasionally contribute but the programme producers turn a blind eye and believe, as you have already noted, that they know best.

David K Sorry, still can't do the quote thing. But you are so right!

Do I watch GW? Only if I have nothing else to do!

Does this message board provide the platform for intelligent questions and answers? Does it have the platform for (sometimes) humorous interchanges between posters? (Beyond the b****y Potting Shed of infamy of course). Is it a vibrant exchange of knowledge and interaction?

Well - over to you for the answer!

So - the little gardening that is permitted on TV - viz Gardeners World. Scores out of 10?

    (-5 so far)

I, too, would like to really know what on earth is going on with Gardeners World. For most of my married life as a gardener (over forty years) I have looked forward to Friday nights for my weekly fix of delights. Wonderful presenters, a mixed programme and professionalism. Now what have we got? Blue Peter for adults, and the same old stuff recycled every week. Another How To Take Cuttings and I will destroy my telly. As for the thirty minute fixes - please - they are Pythonesque in their stupidity. I do not take to Toby - sorry - and Carol Klein laughs far too much, but I really do think that it is the direction that is the real destroyer. Are you out there and listening Ö÷²¥´óÐã? The programme has gone to the dogs.
