As an avid gardener, I am sure that the gardening public who are also license payers are not getting enough gardening shows on TV.

I have to say the even when we do get Gardeners World on our TVs' it is more often than not removed and replaced by sporting events.

I am sure when it comes to overall viewing Sport has more than its fair share. I would like to know why the Ö÷²¥´óÐã feel they can treat their gardening viewers with such contempt.

Their is a growing culture of gardening and growing your own produce in this country especially amongst the young. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã should be encouraging this and promoting it by educating the public with more gardening on TV not less.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã is meant to be for all not just the sporting fraternity, come on Ö÷²¥´óÐã play fair, give us more gardening not just Gardeners World and RHS shows (once per year) and please stop taking Gardeners World off to show sport.

    Steve,

All sorts of popular occupations and interests are thinly represented on TV. Cars are a total obsession in society, yet motoring is only represented by Top Gear - one hour a week (don't know if it's on all year) - and some motor sport; DIY gets rather sensationalist coverage in 'disaster' series; mountaineering, walking and climbing programmes are sporadic; fishing is occasional, as is singing.

Sport coverage itself is very biased; you can overdose on football, but except in the case of major championships the rest is a bit thin, and other sports in which millions participate get no coverage at all.

I disagree with your assertion that GW is taken off 'more often than not' to show sport.

How much interest would there really be if there were five hours every week of gardening on TV? No bigger audience than 'Flog It', I suspect.

Looking on the bright side, participation in gardening is a lot cheaper than watching live sport. For the price of a Manchester United match ticket, you can join the National Trust and see dozens of world-class gardens.

As a panellist on Gardeners' Question Time said yesterday, you can get all the information you want online, and there are plenty of books out there as well.

    Joe

You sound quite wound up about this. If you're not happy with the coverage on TV then you should really complain directly to the beeb through a letter and get a more direct response.
