    Hi All

Gardeners' World is on air tomorrow night at 8.30pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã2, and on Saturday 3 April at 7.45pm, on Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 Wales.

Easter is traditionally the biggest gardening weekend of the year and, with that in mind, this week’s Gardeners’ World is a special, one-hour programme packed full of inspiration and top gardening tips from Toby, Joe, Carol and Alys.

Toby gives the lowdown on Clematis for all seasons, Joe recommends the best trees for small gardens and Alys gives tips on sowing a brand new variety of vegetable. Carol is at Tresco Abbey on the Scilly Isles exploring the extraordinary and exotic plants that thrive there and, while she is there, she explores the unusual Protea family and explains the unique way it’s family members are cultivated.

Orchids come under the scrutiny of the Royal Horticultural Society and we get to see their fantastic display at RHS Wisley when one of their experts gives a master class on how to keep our orchids at home in peak condition and, finally, popular Landscape Designer and Gardeners’ World guest Dan Pearson pays a visit to his favourite garden in Britain, the eighteenth century garden at Rousham in Oxfordshire.

Toby will also be asking for your tips on mice deterrents, to help save the peas at Greenacre – please share your tips and advice on our mice deterrent thread
    (.

For more information about the programme and to view the fact sheet please visit the Gardeners’ World website ( after the show.

Whatever Dan Pearson is smoking, I'll have some. Interesting choice for favourite garden in Britain!

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's programme. A good mix of subjects and a great deal of relevance to many gardener's needs. Even the "way out " bits ( like Joe's wall, which would take forever to do ) were entertaining. A superb addition to an Easter weekend of gardening smiley - biggrin

    Salino

Gardener's World is NEVER repeated, more's the pity. Give the iPlayer a day or two and it will appear on there.

Last night's hour long programme was again excellent although Joe's earth 'wall' was pointless, I felt. Why on earth would anyone want a great slab of hard earth in their garden? The rest was very enjoyable though.

Further proof that an hour is 30 mins too long. The 'fillers' just didn't work for me.

I quite enjoyed Toby's pottering in the garden, and appreciated what Joe was tackling (though of no great personal interest to me). However, Alys is becoming a real problem. The curious voice, the increasingly annoying hand-flapping, the ludicrous scarf trailing in the dirt, the inability to talk to the audience in anything approaching an 'intimate' manner - a girl without any real substance. The clips of her forthcoming series ensured that for me it's a must to avoid.

Dan Pearson would surely be a guaranteed cure for sleeplessness. Deary me - how much boredom can one person bring to a gardening programme? This segment would have put 'The King's New Clothes' scam to shame. He was clearly being moved beyond belief by what appeared to be - well - nothing.

I enjoyed Carol's visit to the Scilly Garden, though she did resort to her gurgling style once again. Slightly more out-of-focus camerawork again this week, which is cause for concern. A fine garden though.

A curious state of affairs when I found myself wishing we could get back to Toby pottering around in his plot and dispensing sound gardening advice. Roll on the regular 30 minute programmes without the dreary padding. Roll on also the return of the Beechgrove Garden, which should solve many of the problems for me at least.

While last week I thought the programme was a little on the boring side this week I thought it was much more interesting. I especially enjoyed the visits to other gardens and Alice's bit about forest gardening of which I would have liked to have seen a bit more. I think I might have to find me a Japanese wineberry for my woodland garden.

There is an interesting article about Carol Klein in this month's Saga magazine. It seems decisions about gardening on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã are made by young executives with little experience of the soil who are alarmed at their ageing audience dying off.

We had a power cut just before 8.30pm, not to be returned until 2am/ish.
In the old days that would have been a disaster, but not so anymore.

    Paul N,
thank you, I've just watched the first half hour on iPlayer.

I'm really enjoying this programme and feel that Toby is definitely the right man for the job there, I think he's great at what he's doing. Just as a point of comparison with planting roses and clematis together, he plants the way I like to, opposite each other but I remember Geoff Hamilton years ago advocating planting them in the same hole which didn't seem right to me.
On a more shallow note, I think Toby is gorgeous, little bald patch 'n allsmiley - smiley

Whilst Joe's wall wouldn't appeal to many perhaps, again Geoff Hamilton used to make all sorts of weird and wonderful concoctions that few would want to replicate, so I thought it was interesting in itself.

Loved Tresco as always and Alys shows us a new Sprout/Kale hybrid which might be one I'd like to try.

I also like their back gardens that they're now developing, something for everyone there.

This is great gardening television, in my opinion.smiley - smiley

Hi Salino, here in Wales we have to wait till Saturday 6.30pm due to the Welsh obsession with Rugby on a Friday night. Receiving our TV by satellite though allows us to easily find Ö÷²¥´óÐã England and watch it at, what I consider, the proper time. If you have satellite TV then you should be able to find Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 Wales.
    Hope that helps
    Sue

I really enjoyed it; was a great show! It was nice to see Alice back, I really like her features. Maybe it's because I am abit younger than most but I find her easier to relate to, and I really like her ethnics/methods.

or get those non lethal traps and put the caught mice in a field [not in your neighbours garden!]

So Alice is trying to grow a lawn in a forest garden? Hope she likes moss smiley - smiley

We've really enjoyed the whole of the present series and feel there's been a valiant attempt to balance the diverse needs of viewers who will have greatly varying experience and skills.

There were interesting plants and ideas - including the wall - that gave us food for thought. We may not put them all into practice but it's good to see some fun but realistic ideas for urban gardening.

More please - at least an hour a week.
