How wonderful that Andy got best in show at Chelsea after the year he's had. He really deserves it.

He would make an ideal GW presenter.

First thing I said the OH, changed his spec. I think they were supposed to be Cork Oaks (someone on here might know better) and he had imported them but they looked to rough.

It was when all the focus initially was on the garden with the green oak structure, which looked superb.
I did like the three pots of iris though, but it makes me wonder what all that rusting metal would look like in five years time. The oak structure in the other garden would have silvered very nicely. So no points for design longevity then.

I've had some rusting metal in my garden for about 5 years and it still looks rusty - although perhaps a bit more so.

darren p: I agree darren. I've seen Andy's gardens at Chelsea for many years now and I thought his effort this year was one of his weakest. I'm glad I'm not a lone voice. Cleve West's gravel planting a couple of years ago was far more impressive, stylish and thoughtful. I loved Tom Stuart-Smith's planting, but I always do. In general I didn't think the gardens were as impressive as usual but loved Leeds City Council's replica canal lock and Music on the Moors in the Courtyard section.

Isn't it about time Joe put his money where his mouth is and produced a Chelsea garden? Alan, Rachel, Chris and Carol have all showed at Chelsea. His lack of a Chelsea medal is beginning to look conspicuous.

Though I listened to Andy's deep revelations upon his inspiration for the garden - the actual garden left me in no doubt. IT MUST HAVE BEEN 911!

Those great lumps of rusty steel in a line and parallel blocks of concrete randomly strewn with flowers looked for all the world like Ground Zero left to nature or at least the bombsites of my youth.

I reckon the Best In Show bit was the R.H.S trying to be hip - I think I liked it better when old Frank Knight used to walk about Wisley with leather patches on his tweed elbows.
