New RHS President takes her Felco secateurs to chop at Ö÷²¥´óÐã TV "dumbing down"

  The new RHS Presodents thinks that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has "dumbed-down" gardening on their channels - citing GARDENER'S WORLD and the coverage of the CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW.
  
  She says that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is scared of plants, latin naming, and personality, and it should aim for quality.
  
  There's a great interview with her in THE TELEGRAPH (04.07.2010).
  
  Refuted by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã, it says that GW has a healthly 2 million TV audeince (but more importantly a good "share of the available audience" for prime time TV) and welcomes the RHS-Ö÷²¥´óÐã collaboration for the Flower Show.
  
  She's correct.

  Yes, sure, the audience for GW has dwindled from Titchmarsh/Don heights of 4 million, and the programme is frequently poorly made (the camera work & editing should no longer be allocated to the local Technical College interins; they do it, don't they? Cannot be done by professionals as it's terrible...), a couple of the presenters see it as their own pantomime show, and "items" on the programme are truncated to a point that you think "was it worth it?".
  
  GW could be better (I thought that it would improve under Rosemary but it is dull - and I've been watching since the 1970s).
  
  For example: GW never (hardly) re-visits projects. Like the pond; if it's anything like mine, that it needs a clean, new oxygenating plants in it (barley bale!), etc, BUT since it's built all we've had is a couple of alpines planted it it...
  
  GW either be a horticultural TOP GEAR (oh, no) or a gardening show without the "set pieces of chatter with your mates".
  
  A total GW revamp needed. One main presenter (Toby) and a "secondary" one for filmed inserts (Alys - she did a nice six-part show earlier this year). Sorry, Carol and Joey but your time is up.
