Hi all,
Yesterday I saw a trailer for the new series of 'Who Do You Think You Are?'and it seems that Monty is going to be one of the subjects (I expect most of you knew this already, but I have only just found out, and I am very excited).
I always thought that about him
Must have a new book out
Oh, you cynic!
Some of us are a bit desperate for a Monty fix. Has anyone let Nooj know??
That's what I think too RowanC.
Great title for the programme.
Thankyou GE - someone has indeed pointed me in this direction
Many thanks to Obelixx
-is there a date yet?
Hi nooj,
No, I haven't seen any details giving the date so far.
By the way, I'm not "Obelixx"
Sorry - I meant that obelixx had let me know there was a thread of great interest to me!
Morning. Monty's journey of discover is broadcast on MONDAY 9 AUGUST at 21:00 Ö÷²¥´óÐã ONE and Ö÷²¥´óÐã ONE HD.
Here's the Ö÷²¥´óÐã PRESS OFFICE text:
Famous gardener Monty Don comes from a well-known dynasty of architects on his mother's side of the family, but knows little about his other relatives.
He starts his investigation with a visit to his older brother David. Amongst the family memorabilia they find a photograph of their great grandmother, Charlotte Wyatt, whose maiden name was Hodge. Monty is intrigued as no-one in the family has spoken much of the Hodges.
Monty's efforts lead him to a port near Anglesey where he learns of extraordinary colonial travels and a national disaster that ended in a family tragedy.
On his father's side, Monty has heard that his ancestors were part of the famous Keiller marmalade dynasty, based in Dundee. Following their invention of chip marmalade, the Keillers became immensely rich but Monty's immediate family saw none of the fortune. So where did the missing marmalade millions go?
Monty travels to Scotland to discover how his great grandfather was involved in the business. He unearths a bitter family feud that finally answers his questions about the Keiller fortune.

Link to the Points of View message board chat about this very absorbing episode:
My wife and I were away in France when this programme was televised. I've tried watching it on iPlayer but the pictures are poor with stop-start images. How can I view this properly please?

Paul
from what I remember you need a broadband connection with at least 2mb
RC
We do have Broadband but I wouldn't have a clue at discovering how many mb's we have. I have three motorbikes but I guess that doesn't count?

Try this link
The test is just below the speed dial
You need a download of over 2000 Kbps (2 Mbps)
Your upload will probably be in the 3-500 Kbps range
Depends what package you have from your service provider. It also depends on how far you are from the exchange.
Hope this helps
What bikes have you got because I do like old Norton's..................

Paul, if I have understood your problem correctly, you don't need to watch iPlayer programmes online. If you click on 'Download' underneath the main image on the iPlayer page, it will download the whole programme to your computer and you can then watch it anytime you want, and because the whole programme is already there, you don't get this stop start thing when you're watching it. You need to download some extra software to your computer but it steps you through this.
Thank you TB.
RC, BMW R100/7, BMW R100GS-Paris Dakar, Honda Pan European.
yep. the i player will do the downloading for you. i use it for garden related tomfoolery.
ps, kawasaki 636 c1h in green of course!

I've had another look at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã iPlayer page, clicked in the 'Download' icon but nothing has happened. In all honesty, I find all this 'puter jargon too much for me and just have to accept that it will eventually appear as a repeat on an obscure FreeView channel. Last winter I replaced the rusty chassis on my 2CV for a sparkling galvanised one, so I'm not daft but all this cumputer stuff just addles my brain. As for downloading extra software, I think poking myself in the eye with a blunt stick would be an easier option.
Good news! Monty Don's 'Who do you think you are?' is being repeated early on Saturday morning 25th September at 0140am. Set your recorders, Ladies and Gentlemen.

I was hoping it would be shown on the 31st.......
I can't believe you said that. Kindly wash your mouth out It'll save me struggling to work out how many doofrys there are in my woggle, and downloading software I wouldn't have a clue what to do with anyway. Monty is a good man and I always read his writings in Saturday's Daily Mail supplement. 'Shame about the newspaper though.
I finally caught up with the programme after I recorded it during the small hours of Saturday morning. As with almost every other episode in this fascinating series, this was so interesting. As someone who's traced his ancestors back to the mid-1600s, I'm envious of those who discover such interesting ancestors. Monty had a bible thumping relayive who's wife deserted him and her nine children to sail alone to New Zealand. There was also the interesting connection with the Dundee marmalade makers.
I wish we'd heard more about Monty's paternal line, his father for instance.
