Why is it that when the presenters talk (as they did in this evenings programme) about being so far North it's a wonder anything grows in the cold they stop at the Egland Scotland border. The roadshow doesn;t crossit, the presenters don't talk about it/
. The calendar may be about a month behind because of the colder weather but we do have gardens in Scotland. Many beautiful gardens which I'm sure would be appreciated by viewers all over the UK.

Understand what you are saying, but you have the envious and major advantage in having your own quality gardening programme in Beechgrove Garden, normally on Wednesday night. This is much more applicable for you area I would think? but for the many avid viewers of BG south of the border we have to understand BG is easily 4 weeks behind where we are now so its handy to be telepathic. smiley - winkeyesmiley - ok

Having just returned from Scotland going up the east coast across along Loch Ness and back down the west coast I can vouch for some wonderful gardens in full bloom.
On the Coast at Wick there were gardens that would take prizes in any garden show and they fight both the weather and the harsh sea breezes bringing salt inland.
There are many dedicated gardeners in Scotland as there are here in the north of England, we are two to three weeks behind the south at times, it does mean we have the pleasure of some plants when they are long gone down south.
It is best to ignore some of the comments in programmes as they assume that north of Potters Bar we live in the ice age, ignorance is bliss.
    Frank.

I can remember GW featuring some Scottish gardens and gardeners in the days of GH. I remember one such programme giving me a yen for meconopsis.

As for Beechgrove and Scotland's gardening season being later, I watched with interest last week's programme with advice on pruning, training and harvesting black and red currants. Both my crops have been picked and bottled or frozen and the bushes pruned since early July. Nevertheless the advice and camera work were excellent.
