I have just read that Toby and Alys have had their contracts terminated by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. Monty is back and the program is going to come from his own garden in Herefordshire. I am not sure what i feel about this i know Monty is good at what he does. I am pleased it is going to come from a real garden. I hope its proper grass roots gardening and not expensive short term ideas. Also what happens to Berryfields and all the plants and buildings built there. Is that another white elephant. I think the Ö÷²¥´óÐã need to be accountable for what they spend our licence money on. Some will be pleased Rachel is back plus Carol and Joe. What do you think will be like good or bad ?

I have to wonder whether changing presenters will fix the main problems with the show which, for me, are entirely related to poor production and direction.

If we keep the same team with their daft ideas about continuity (none), seasonal advice (too late or irrelevant), camera work (indistinct, unfocussed, jazzy), subject matter (not enough space here to start on that) then GW is doomed to slide further into the abyss.

If, however, we get timely, relevant advice on a variety of topics from a real garden that is relative to new and old gardens and gardeners then bring it on.

Gardeners World will never please everyone on this board. It constantly surprises me how obviously experienced gardeners complain about it when they probably know as much as Toby and Alys anyway. This is not niche programming it's trying to appeal to as broad an audience as possible and I think it's about time we all accepted that. I've criticised the programme in the past (too childlike) but have also picked up some valuable advice as have others who post on here.

"They want to find someone like Percy Thrower". Someone who grows flowers, fruit and veg. as simple as that. Not another bunch of wannabes who comes back from the garden centre with a lorry load of container plants and plonks them into the ground.

For gardening to flourish it needs someone knowledgeable who can pass this knowledge on to the up and coming gardeners of tomorrow. If there was a programme (note, correct spelling) like this, I defy 'old gardeners' not to pick up a useful hint or two also. Cheers, Tony. "Have a Cool Yule Y'all". X X X X.

I have to agree with all your points here. We do need a good program to supply all the aspects of gardening that different people want. I used to really like Monty Don but i was glad to see him leave as he was on everything and the format of the program did not help. Why does he need all the other presenters if its from his own home. Alan and Geoff managed quite well on their own. If he keeps to grass roots gardening i think it will be fine but i know there will always be a point when the very expensive items will start arriving. From someone who confesses to living a life of everything and nothing i think he will soon be buying things out of most peoples reach. Then theres the personalty clashes with so many presenters. It could be great or it could be awful only time will tell. Just don't let be see rusty obelisks at £150 each i still have not forgotten those i wonder where they ended up. Anyone Know ?

If confirmed smacks of indecision and "headless chickens" to me, as is so typical of management these days..
Monty too has/had his critics and although an obvious knowledgeable gardener with a strong personality, who unfortunately had to relinquish the spot due to ill health, does not mean a return to a status quo will solve GW's problems.
I think there was a general consensus on the "boards" that GW was improving under Toby's tenure and one hopes this was in some way an eventual response to all the frustrations, combined with constructive comments, via these columns.
Are we now to go back to square one? and start the reformulation exercise all over again?
The conclusion from many was that it was the backroom team who were at fault rather than front of camera people , are they being shuffled as well and falling on their swords?smiley - erm
Take care Toby if the rumours are confirmed . smiley - ok
